I just finished the 4th volume. An excellent comedy. But there's no info about the 5th one! Has the series been dropped?

3 Name: MJP 2005-07-29 22:13 ID:Heaven

Alas, it has not been dropped. They listed the first four volumes, but if you go to tokyopop.com and go to the page for Comic Party, you'll see that volume 5 is solicited, but greyed out. It's probably like Real Bout High School or the .hack// manga... maybe it's still running in Japan and they have to wait before they can license it in the US.

But according to this, hasn't the 5th one been out for a while?

It's gotta be translated, edited, proofed, re-edited, etc. Tokyopop takes their time sometimes. It was a full year between when RBHS v. 6 was in grey and the time it hit the stores. They're too busy translating other crap and a couple of good titles, I suppose.

> Alas, it has not been dropped.

Why is that a bad thing?

7 Name: MJP 2005-08-01 04:05 ID:Heaven

Because people like me are willing to pay enough money to make it profitable for Tokyopop to continue selling it.

i tried reading comic party once and didn't care for it at all. the story in question featured some guy being hounded by this girl because he needs to get a story he's working on finished in time. so he buckles down and gets the story done early. so what does editor girl do? she tears the pages up in front of him and feeds him some malarky about how manga artists produce their best work when under pressure or some such nonsense. ~groan~

if you want to read a manga that's ABOUT manga then try Genshiken. it's actually funny and gives a nice inside glimpse into the freaky OCD world of otaku. think of it as a Japanese version of the Eltingville Club.

That sounds like one of the anthologies from CPM. They were drawn by several different artists, so they can be hit or miss. The "official" books are the series by Sekihiko Inui, licensed by Tokyopop.
Here's some sample pages to compare.

Personally I thought it was pretty cool of them to translate doujinshi in the first place. There needs to be more of that.

Yeah, you sound like someone who read the dojinshi before the real thing, or before you saw the anime. Give the Tokyopop books a shot or buy the DVDs from RSI. They're a real bargain on Ebay these days.

Agreed. Those dojinshi, the manga, and the anime are all we've got, and they're about the only way to get further into the brains of the characters if you care enough to write fanfic... >> <<

Volume 5 came out in January. If you like Comic Party, GET IT!

With the background on Eimi I finally understand a lot of the stories from the doujinshi collections.

I read the german version of 'Comic PArts' and well, I love it. It's such a random thing but I recognized myself in so many scenes it was almost scary (same as with Genshiken)

As pathetic as it sounds, Comipa made me want to learn to draw. Proper figure drawing too, so I can be competent in the fundamentals before trying something like manga.

Me too =P
Of course, I can't draw to save my life, so I was a complete failure...

I love Comipa ^_^
I liked the story and Inui Sekihiko's art style.
Taishi was my favorite character =D

Okay, oddly enough, I lied. Now I can draw o_o;;

I still can't draw my own characters, or draw things without a good refernece, but I can sorta draw.

I drew Chisa the other day, and she looked... Decent. I used a pen to sketch the whole thing out, so I had to scribble parts out and pretend like I was "shading" it. >_>;;

Comic Party and Genshiken both made me a doujinshi otaku XD

I now appreciate the time and work that goes into every page of manga I read.

Yeah, I still have trouble creating my own characters. I've drawn real life people like the members of my favorite bands and stuff so much that the characters I create look very much like them.

Take my original character Terumichi for example... he looks so much like a much younger version of Teru, the lead singer of Glay. (hence his name) http://mariflame.tripod.com/teru.html Here's a whole bunch of pics of Teru. ^^ The next to last one is my fave!

But, back onto the original topic... Comic Party is one of my fave mangas! Unfortunately, I can't find it anymore at my local bookstores. T__T I want to get 3, 4, and 5! I've never read Genshiken, though.
