I am in need of a program for Windows with which to record and possibly cut-edit/save streams of MP3, OGG and Realmedia format.
Can anyone help out?
Cooledit and Goldwave are two that come to mind, but they'll only do mp3. OGG and Realmedia are going to be a pain in the arse unless you get plugins or transcode.
mp3DirectCut will cut mp3s without re-compressing, which is pretty useful.
I asked the same question on the old iichan discussion boards and I think it was you who mentioned some program to me which was supposed to be able to do all this. It was pretty obscure and had no GUI, so I didn't really try at first and then forgot about it. Care to mention it again?
Ah, yes, good old mplayer.

mplayer -dumpstream mms://...
mplayer -dumpstream -playlist http://...Those will save the stream to a file named stream.dump. I keep forgetting the option to give another name for the file, but you can just rename it to the right extension later.
Try the windows version of macamp. just dig up a serial and record away.
BTW, does anybody know how to record an AAC+ (or HE-AAC? or whatever it is called) stream? I've tried to use the modified http plugin for foobar which in theory allows you to save the stream, but it appears that for AAC+ streams the resulting file doesn't seem to be playable somehow.
mplayer won't do it?
Just tried that and yes it does. But the problem remains the same: how do I play back the resulted file? Neither foobar nor mplayer don't recognize it as an mp4 stream no matter which extension I give to the file.
For example, mplayer gives me this:
[Playing stream.dump.
TiVo file format detected.
MPEG: No audio stream found -> no sound.
MPEG: FATAL: EOF while searching for sequence header.
Video: Cannot read properties.]
To be more exact, these are DI.FM's aac+ streams that I'm trying to record.
That IS pretty weird.
However, I remember that in the early days of iTunes DRM cracking, somebody made a program that captured the AAC stream out of the file after decrypting but before decoding. However, that stream was also unplayable, but you could fix it with some AAC command-line tool. However, I forget the details. Try to Google for that and see what you find.

The problem with >>8's playback is that the file probably doesnt have its headers attached. rarewares.org has a whole heap of AAC decoding and encoding tools, >>8 might find something there.

Thanks for the pointers. I've dug up that old method - it actually involved running the dumped file through faad2 commandline decoder. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work either (for reasons I'm not sure of, maybe because AAC is a different file format than AAC+?). Then I found a similar question in a thread here: http://www.audiocoding.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=220&forum=2 . It says latest faad2 CVS supports it. Too bad binaries aren't available from there. I'll try to compile it under Windows, and if that will succeed I'll post results here.
