interested in people's choice of headphones, as i recently picked up myself some Alessandro MS-1s (modded Grados) and they rawk. what do you use??
I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-280 Pros. The sound quality is great but they're a little uncomfortable after a while.
Usually, I listen on cheap desktop speakers that scatter the sound so little they can practically be used as headphones.
I've had a pair of Sony MDR-V700s for years: they're sturdy, comfortable and the sound quality is pretty damn good.
Sennheiser 25sp
had them for about three years now, they are performing remarkably given the amount of rain, snow and beer they have been showered with throught the years
ps. the option of easily swapping chords = megawin
AKG k501. They're amazing if you're into dry, clear sound. The mids are incredible.
If you want "phat" oontz oontz homie-bass don't bother with them.
Also, they are somewhat pricey (200+ bucks usually).
A sony MDR-G57 average sound quality and fits quite nice. Thought I wish I had one of those sound canceling head phones.
Sony MDR-V6
Beyerdynamic DTX-800
Sennheiser HD 25-1 owner here. I rally love them, awesome headphones, they go wherever I go.
A little bit expensive, you could get a better sound for that money, but they are very portable and you simply can't beat Sennheiser built quality. I bet ppl will find these headphones after nuclear winter.. in working condition.
These are the headphones to get if you want closed supra-aural ones.

egggos on the move,
cheapo sr-60s at home.

i think i'm gonna ask for SR-60s for christmas, how are they?

I like them a lot, but by no means are they the best headphone around. Theyre a great "first pair" of decent phones and you will definatly notice an improvement over whatever it is you listen to now.
Im not sure what music you listen to, but they say the grado sound suits rock/pop more than it might suit classical/opera.
You should probably try a pair before you buy some to see if the sound is for you, plus they arent the most comfortable pair of phones ever.

you what? comfort is THE most important thing. if they're gonna be on my head for hours at a time, i care so much less about the sound quality than whether having them on my head drives me batshit or not. (besides which, i only use headphones for listening to mp3s on the train or playing video games, neither of which exactly needs pristine audio reproduction.)
> Theyre a great "first pair" of decent phones and you will definatly notice an improvement over whatever it is you listen to now.
I'm not sure about that, I'm also >>8. (The MDR-V6s broke and I'm using a pair of earbuds right now, though, so technically it's true.)
I'll see if I can find a local retailer where I can try them.
Sony MDR-V300. They're pretty good. Or, if I'm on the train or something, JVC HA-F120, which are as good as I need them to be.

Ya, I totally agree with you.
But my wallet told me to buy AKG k401...
Sony MDR CD-580's. They aren't as clear as monitors, but damn are they comfy.
BOSE TRI PORT kinda kool
Some Craig Noise canceling ones that were about $20.
Sennheiser ... the natural sound version; I can't remember which model number. They're tasty awesome, and only ran about 50 doru.
im gonna buy new onces? any speciel model to recomend?
maybe i should say that I only lissen to punk.
sennheiser and sony headphones are good.
AKG K141
I've had Grado SR-60s for about a year now, and they're great. I'm looking to get Sennheiser HD280s once I can afford them.
I just bought myself Sony MDR-XD400.
Great sound, awesome bass. The only problem is that my ears start to hurt after a few hours because they touch the inner hard plastic that is covered by a softer cussion. :/
Read reviews saying they were one of the most comfortable headphones out there, maybe my ears are to big.
shure e2c...
I have a $15 portable craig set, a $20 noise caceling craig set, and some sennheiser HD280's for when I really need to listen. And about 5 sets of various ear buds.
Sony MDR CD380, to play piano without waking up the neighbours at night.
mm, i've wanted a pair of grados for a long time
currently wearing a pair of senn hd205s, got a pair of fancy sony v600s that I really need to replace the pads on, but it'd cost me $40 buying from sony so I haven't...any suggestions on how to fix this? they're a good pair and I don't have any plans to toss them, I might cave in eventually and buy the replacements.
I heard grado replacement pads work on V6s but IIRC they're shaped differently from the v600's pads...
Sony MDV600 is the best I've ever had, though I've had mine for two years and the pads are also wearing down. Mine are pretty much held together by gorilla glue and electric tape. I got a newer pair of Sony's for Christmas, but the V600's have a sound that is huge, like being in a studio where you can pick out every little instrument.
Sennheiser HD-280 Pro. Great sound quality, but they're uncomfortable and make my head hot. Also, I hear lots of background noise, probably due to crosstalk on my sound card, which I don't notice when using speakers.
My headphones haven't been made since the early 80s, probably. Try looking up "Stanton XXI"s. They cost about $75 bucks back in the late '70s.
For some reason they are still fantastic headphones, and I love them. I dunno how they haven't broken yet. Actually, I just replaced the cloth on the phones because it was basically flat and uncomfortable, since the Stantons are all metal with denim for the headband.
If these ever stop working, I'll look into some AKGs or Sennheisers, or maybe another pair of Stantons :D
Philips SBCHC132 - which are really POS headphones. They're cheap and because they're the wireless RF type. I hated these since I bought them, but a few days ago I found a way to make them sound alright.
I'm using this EQ setting in Zoom Player called Blight's Rock that has the treble and bass set high enough to make the headphones clip. The result is a real booming, distorted and totally unpleasant sound. But if you use it on really rough grunge or hardcore stuff, it adds to the ambiance. Limited use, but better than nothing.
I used to have an awesome sounding pair of Audio-Technicas, which are really expensive. But the wires are made of stuff that made it irresistible for rats to snack on it.
Sennheiser PX100s. Also work moderately well as earmuffs for some reason.
I'm #11. Today I ordered Westone UM2 dual driver IEMs. Can't wait to get my hands on them. I see another IEM earphone user at #32! Anyone else?
On a related note, curse you head-fi.org!
Grado SR60.
Would say it's the best that price range.
A cheap Koss 20 dollar POS. I really want a pair of headphones like my old Sony headphones, which had comfy padding in the ear cups, no f'ing collapsible band which rips out my hair and maybe a solid surface on the outside of the earcups (instead of the superfluous stereo grille type thing they often have).
I have SONY MDR-D333LW lol
sennheiser hd555 > ALL
I know they are BS headphones but I LOVE my skullcandy DJ headphones. I'm a big can of clunky sci-fi looking headgear.
