So they're going to make a new album. What do you think, will it be a success or are Billy Corgan's 15 minutes of fame over?
they can probably pull a hit song out of their ass

That's pretty much what I thought too -- except, in 1997, The Smashing Pumpkins weren't doing angst-alternative. That was when they were recording "Adore", which approximates what would now be called emo. You must have meant 1999 or 2000.

wait, what? emo isn't angsty and alternative?

No, in 1999 and 2000 they were in their MACHINA/The Machines of God phase, which approximates what would be called 'braindead concept electro-art-alt-rock'. You must have meant 1994 or 1995.
I can't believe no one bumped this!
I had really low expectations for Zeitgeist. It exceeded them, but that was not hard to do. Nothing like the Pumpkins in their prime, but a few cool songs, and "Doomsday Clock" did get stuck in my head at one point.
For the most part, I like the retailer-exclusive bonus tracks ("Death from Above", "Zeitgeist", "Stellar") more than what's on the album proper. I really like "Death from Above". Anyone else heard it, and if so what'd you think?
