Seeing as I live in the Netherlands, I'm pretty much forced too. However, since you used the generic term "Dutch music", I assumed you meant Jan Smit and René Froger and the like. Tiesto and his kin's ...music is only "Dutch" in the sense that its creator is from the Netherlands. The style isn't associated with any country or culture (at least not the Netherlands alone).
Really though.... trance... that's even worse than what I though this thread was about.

I haven't heard a lot of Hirai Ken, but I do know the guy can actually sing and POP STAR's kind of catchy. I wouldn't call him the greatest singer ever, but comparing it with whatever the Idols contestants are ejaculating is just rude. If the Shintou religion is right and there is a god for everything, including music, I bet he's very pissed off right now.

Certainly, this is true. But then, isn't making a thread dedicated to Dutch music pointless, since that would make the origin of a song irrelevant? There's no reason why the winners of Idols and American Idol can't be discussed in the same discussion. On the other hand, discussing Jan Smit and DJ Tiesto in the same discussion is just weird.

It might be out there, but I haven't found it yet. I'm not particularly motivated to go actively looking for it either.
In the first place, Dutch isn't a very pretty language. It has a very lazy pronunciation and has not particular charm either.

Outside of Rotterdam Terror Corps the best band to ever come out of the Netherlands is The Gathering. Hands down one of the best bands I've ever listened to.

well no. compared to other languages it sometimes sounds a bit harsh. On the other hand, it is the mothertongue of about 16mln people, which might compensate. It does for me.

While I don't really see the importance in associating things with 'culture', when something doesn't have a cultural identity in the first place, there is very little to deculturise, now is there?

dude.. given your description of trance, and if you live in the netherlands, then you obviously don't go to any parties or places where people dance after 00:00! And I don't get it... what could ever be wrong with prioritisin low-pitch sound over high-pitch sound! What is wrong with a groovy baseline???
Anyway, the point I made was that dutch music could beat japanese music.... I take that back, but I'll take my stand at the view that a lot of dutch music is on par with japanese music! ;)
