There's a few different types of ska (first wave, two-tone, third wave? I'm not sure, it's been years since I listened to ska)

Each type has a pretty distinct sound.
Check out The Specials, they're a classic two-tone band and they're awesome.

who cares, 311 rocks. they do some ska, but like any other genre they defy pigeonholing.

Skalatites, Heptones (more reggae) and other from Jamaica. If you're interested I may dig my harddrive and give you full list.

You may try modern ska like Catch 22 and Streetlight Manifesto. They are awesome.

311 is ska reggae kind of like the urge
Real ska isn't separable from any other type of ska.
1 - 3 wave mean nothing.
Its just weather you want to call it ska, punk, rock.
Whatever. Means nothing.
