i like vinyl, i do. but at the same time i also like having all my music with me on a portable player, and vinyl is a cock to rip. to that end it'd be really, really nice if everyone releasing shit on vinyl chucked in a code for a free download along with it, yknow? i just bought a box set of 7" singles which are great and all, but if they want me to pay £7.90 on top of that for the privilege of playing them on my computer/ipod they can fuck right off.

certainly seems like it. unfortunately the stuff I bought is too obscure to be widely available on p2ps and torrents sites and the like - maybe if oink was still around I could have got it off there, but ... well, it isn't.

is there any other site out there that's as good as oink was for that sort of thing? i'm not asking for a link or a name or anything (cos that would be illegal, innit) but just a yes or a no would suffice.

However, I thought about it and to the labels' credit, I know at least two that are doing exactly what you said.

If you buy John Vanderslice's latest album on LP, you apparently get an MP3 download link. http://www.barsuk.com/shop/bark066

And the label Zhark International has free MP3s up of most of their LPs and 12"s, it seems. The quality varies, I've chanced upon a 128k (crap) and one LAME V2 (pretty good) so far. http://www.zhark.org/zhark/releases.html
