"Maker of the antidepressant drug Paxil is warning doctors that the drug appears to increase the risk of suicide attempts in young adults."
"the drug company found that 11 of 3,455 depressed people who took Paxil attempted suicide, compared to 1 in 1,978 of those who took a placebo.
The majority of those who made a suicide attempt were between the ages of 18 and 30. People over 30 generally did not have an increased risk of suicide attempts."
i can confirm this with personal experience
So it increases attempts, but not success?
One has to wonder how antidepressants could possibly work if they are inducing suicide. Unless it's really happy suicide or something...
...never believed in taking them anyways. Isn't it just the same as running away from a problem by just dampening it, with drugs in this case...
That can't be healthy mentally...
Don't oversimplify it into some good/bad black/white thing. Antidepressants certainly help many many people get back into life.
One factor in these things is always that extremely depressed people tend to stay in one place and do nothing - they feel like total shit, but they're not going to do anything. Improve a little bit on that and bang - instant action. : (
Wait, wait, wait... so they gave placebos of a drug to ~2000 people, some who might have needed it?

Not to mention that depression can be caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. Those imbalances can be genetic or caused by trauma, as my friend who had PTD. It's really hard to beat something like that just through willpower.
Genetics and psychological trauma are only a few enviornment factors. Others include malnutrition and deprivation (cough*highfructosecornsyrup*cough)

Malnutrition? That doesn't make a lot of sense, could you explain? Not to mention the corn syrup thing...
usually they attempt it because they are going through withdrawal. Trust me, i'm NEVER going off it.
Yeah, that high fructose corn syrup withdrawal's a real bitch.
