I agree, besides which, if the Constitution isn't strong enough to work when things aren't perfect, then what the hell good is it? Anything will work when everything is hunky dory and no one wants for anything. You could set up a dictatorship, and as long as you had a "nice" leader, everything would be ok.
I think the constitution works fine, even if we have to worry about whackjobs who hate us. It was working during the civil war, it was working when the Brits burned the White House in the War of 1812. It will work in the war on terror.
