Man told to 'get a job' found dead at home

The Yomiuri Shimbun

The body of a 52-year-old man who withdrew his application for welfare benefits after being instructed by a municipal government official to find a job was discovered Tuesday in Kokura-kita Ward, Kitakyushu, it has been learned.

According to sources, the man had been receiving a benefit since late 2006, but applied to have it stopped after the Kitakyushu municipal government official told him to find a job.

The man left a diary containing entries outlining his dissatisfaction with the government's response. "The official told me to work, but I can't work," he wrote, "I just want to eat a rice ball."

A senior government official said, "Our response to the situation was appropriate."

Have some consideration >>3, for the people who'd have to clean up your body, arrange the paperwork, figure out who the fuck you were, and then pay for your funeral arrangements.

Be a little more sympathetic to us here.

And of course, then there's the family who might be embarrassed/grief-struck by your death. They'd have to make up stories about you and your death from then on. And the newspapers might print it, to the further embarrassment of anyone who might have known you or for your landlord, who's building would have a bad reputation forever as the one with the hiki who offed-himself.

Anyway >>3, you should just stick with today's life.

You should seek professional help. There are many services worldwide that allow you to talk to professional councellors anonymously, this is not one of them. Check your local phonebook for such services.

Well, I hate myself too, but you don't see me blabbing about offing myself. Besides, suicide is murder in most countries; you don't have the legal right to take anyone's life, including your own.

I thought EVA was pretty refreshing. Cool shows like that are a good reason to live IMO.

17 Name: Unverified Source : 2007-08-30 13:28 ID:9B0rcsg4

Dude, Hideaki Anno wrote the story to Evangelion with depressed otaku and komori-zoku in mind as his target audience. The whole point of the show is that you CAN find a reason for living in whatever you do. Shinji can't see himself as worthy of existence without piloting Eva, but in the last two episodes of the TV series, he realizes that he can live as a normal person and have worth in the world. In the movie ending, he rejects an existance devoid of pain or pleasure in favor of the world we have now. He acknowledges that pain is necessary and that humans will misunderstand each other, but interacting with each other and experiencing pain is the only thing that will lead to true happiness.

Evangelion's a great show for depressed people to watch, if they can see the director's true message.

>>17 hrmm... well... "message"? hrmm,...
It's an apocalypse film, so it might have a cathartic effect, but any "message" it has would be sarcastic or cynical. I wouldn't read too much into any of Anno's characters. That'd be like trying to find meaning in a can of Campbell's Soup.

ZOMG! Evangelion is EVERYWHERE!

I quite like the way >>1's quoted article leaves the reader with the understanding that the person in question offed himself, without being banal about it.

21 Name: Unverified Source : 2007-09-06 15:09 ID:kd1wRiXv

Hmm, I like how I was able to start an Evangelion Thread out of that one comment. Heh heh. In anycase most people who are not otaku or do not watch anime and read manga and are depressed usually dont finish the series... They never get to the last episode where he admits that he needs pain to live. Most people that I know who I told to watch it ended up not watching the last episode because of teh episode b4 the last episode.... Even when I told them to wait till the end and they didnt (:.:) In anycase eva is a great title pick it up weeaboo or not emo or crack addict. All will rejoice to see the ending... END........

sigh... Seems just about all the world news in the NYTimes about Japan is negative, well the same is true about every other country featured in "World" for the most part.

As I see it, national attention on cases of poverty and govt negligence in this case is a very good sign. I wish we'd get something like this in the US, when you consider how much incredible poverty and absent govt aid there is here.

But our media prefers to talk about stupid shit.

One of the purest acts is selfless suicide. When you come to the realization that you are a drain on the General Utility (ala Bentham), you must correct this problem or end yourself.
