6-year-old boy hurt in playground accident

A 6-year-old boy suffered serious injuries to his fingers when his hand became trapped in playground equipment at Toda-Sakuradai Kindergarten in Nakagawa Ward, Nagoya, it was learned Saturday.

The boy lost the last joint of his right middle finger, and broke his right ring finger, while playing on a carousel shaped like a teacup that was 85 centimeters high and 145 centimeters in diameter.

His mother reported the incident to local police Saturday morning, saying her second son had injured his fingers on the teacup ride at a kindergarten.

According to the police and the kindergarten, the incident happened while four children were playing on the carousel at about 4:20 p.m. Friday.

The injured boy was squatting close to the entrance to the teacup when the fingers on his right hand became trapped in the gap between the rotating part of the ride and its iron base.
