Anonymous vs Scientology (51)

1 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-01-25 22:40 ID:kAgaf0Ym

well! seems like it's kicking off a bit, "Anonymous" (that is, the anonymous of the *chan imageboards, not the anonymous from here, which i consider a separate and less retarded entity entirely) has declared war on the Church of Scientology. So far this seems to have amounted to collecting a bunch of already leaked scientology materials and putting them up on file hosting services, and then DDOSing various CoS related websites.

But for once I can actually get behind the various twats of the chans, the CoS is a genuinely dangerous organisation, and I'd love to see it taken down a peg or several... so far the few mainstream media outlets that picked the story up have reported on a group of "hackers" which isn't exactly right, but at least it's getting *some exposure.

Seems to me like they would get better results if they just left their parents basements and got out spreading information about the Church's misdeeds in, yknow, the actual real world - after all, most lower level members of the CoS (ie the actual victims of the thing) don't even have internet access in the first place.

>A group of hackers calling themselves Anonymous have been threatening to destroy the Church of Scientology.

lol. I see I can still access the webpage.

>Even one of Scientology's biggest critics - an online site called Operation Clambake - says this is the wrong move.

Yeah, bad idea.

>And talking about 007 - fans have been given a first look at the new Bond movie.

That sounds more exciting.

6 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-01-26 08:06 ID:dglNeOZm

It is kind of unfortunate that they seem to have run out of ideas already and they're just DDOSing the sites. That isn't going to get them any support, and it isn't going to discredit Scientology. Being unable to access some Scientology website or other for five minutes out of a day will barely even register on most interested parties' radars.

7 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-01-26 13:22 ID:Heaven

I don't see the big problem, it looks like a /b/tard trolling fad to me. Maybe you should give an example of what Scientology actually did to you or someone you know that makes them the Bad Guys.

Anon is dead, anyways. This is just the residual newfagness that hasn't died yet.

The mental image of creepy virginal /b/tards carrying out an assault against the creepy virginal $cienos amuses me greatly. Almost enough to care. ~_~

The problem comes when the Corporate machine afraid of the unknown that is Anonymous will continue to portray Anonymous as a malicious bunch of hackers or worse "Terrorists" which will inevitably lead to a real threat to their personal safety and freedoms by the very government that was supposed to protect these individuals.

Yay for tyranny!

But what if they find that Anonymous does not forgive? o_O

10th febuary. at least 3000 anons worldwide with a score more of public support and nationally renowned critics have committed to this protest.

Perhaps we underestimated this?

20 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-02-02 15:41 ID:LfLnXuU2

no,i dont think so
we are yet to see it is full potential but i m not that hopeful
though this kind of net vigilante seems promising

21 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-02-03 01:08 ID:Heaven

If this is news then me scratching my balls is news too. I think this would be better in the Net Culture board then, but even then you can hardly consider anything to come out of 4chan to be "culture".

But will they be Scientolofags or Anonyfags?

25 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-02-06 18:34 ID:Heaven

6 anonfags, and 20 scifags trying to pass as anonifags and starting fights with each others.

>>23
What, so there have been other Anon protest raids? I thought Anon's idea of a "raid" was to go to a website and DDoS it by leaning on the F5 key, and then order a bunch of pizzas to a guy's house.

3,000 in word, not in person

But I thought that was obvious.

28 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-02-11 02:14 ID:sLGVDSs5

WOW.

Other cities will have a hard time looking as good as in London. London was densely populated and had a lot of people packed into a small area. A lot of US cities are packed tight.

And I looked at that video, and I can see why London leaned so heavily on memes. If you just shout about your cause nonstop, you sound like every other blowhard protest that people try not to notice.

29 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-02-11 04:49 ID:Zm8RnXJY

Well shit, now I’m honestly concerned. Certainly for individuals this is a meaningful cause, but as a collective this is just /b/ flexing it's muscles. And it’s been far more successful than anyone would have a right to hope. What could they end up doing next?

I think a lot of your 'classic' /b/ will probably have been bored with this before yesterday; I think the few who haven't have succeeded in spreading this beyond the usual raiding parties though

Funny.
Seems as though people are getting shit done. Have you been watching any of this crap or are you quick to dismiss it because you think it wont work based upon a preconcieved notion?
Instead of saying "Oh its those /b/ tards again why dont you get out of your basement for a second look around and see what impact this has had.

So far public awareness is skyrocketing. more raids are being planned. documents which have been leaked (Including all the books and the recent emails between david miscavige and other members) are being analysed and submitted as incriminating evidence against scientology.

Their tax exempt status is currently in jeopardy as representatives begin looking into the situation along with surprisingly enough senators.

This project has gone from a simple raid to a full scale operation. It is a shame that all you can do is sit there and dismiss it when clearly you are unwilling or just too damn presumptuous to do something.

Thing is, something like this will not work if people are quick to say this and that despite the accomplishments. So far you have given no real valid reason why this will not work >>33 just statements written in sarcasim which lack lulz for the record.

Though More lulzy comments are needed.

lulz. I wanna try that out. There is a protest come the 15th of march. I may have to carry a tater with my to see if they cringe upon seeing it.

Apparently though, the masks are having a psychological effect on the scientologists due to their uncertainty if the people protesting are people they knew. Furthermore with the staggering numbers, they know full well that they cant go after 1 or 2 people now. Now, they are looking at hundreds and thousands of people against them. With numbers at just 1/5th of their own. 1/5th seems like staggering numbers. Buuuut. I dunno. maybe anon can pull it off.

So, lets see.

39 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-02-21 01:43 ID:VqidUjMG

I would highly recommend masking yourself in any protest (especially with Scientology given the organization's history) to avoid identification and/or retaliation.

40 Name: Unverified Source : 2008-02-22 00:30 ID:omeaxjIr

It freaks them out. Apparently the only way to fully psyche them out is to present no face of which to be identified by. In doing so, they loose their ability to take an attacking position. According to some random assed leaked thing from alt.religion.scientology, they think all the masked protesters are from a galactic federation known as marcab or something like that and that there is some kind of big attack about to happen or something.

Frankly, theyre a bunch of nutcases if they honestly believe that.

Well I'd say that a Guy Fawkes mask would indicate possible epic failure is near. Then again the Guy Fawkes mask is also known as the V mask and which in the movie, he succeeded albeit posthumously.
