OKLAHOMA CITY -- A toddler suffered burns to 20 percent of his body after falling into a barbecue pit late Monday, authorities said.
Investigators spent part of the night interviewing the 2-year-old boy's relatives after he suffered burns on his hands, arms and shoulder. However, police ruled early Tuesday that the fall was merely an accident.
"We need to make sure we have exactly what happened documented and showing exactly what occurred here tonight," said Oklahoma City police Lt. Don Holland.
Police said Kainnan Deem was playing in the back yard of his grandparents' home at Eastside Drive near Southeast 104th Street when he was hurt.
A 5-year-old was also at the home Monday night.
Paramedics said the toddler has been taken to a burn center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
