If you consider yourself fluent in japanese:

How many years have you been learning?
Can you read Japanese newspapers as easy as reading one written in your native language?
How often do you come across words that you don't understand?

I have been learning for about a year now, i know about 500+ kanji and been through all 3 pimsleur courses etc..
I might be living in Japan for 1 year, next year. Is it realistic to aim to become properly fluent after 3 years?
