I have been told that there are 'doujin' (or 'doozin'), groups of people who make new comics and games, using the characters of comics and games already published by other groups. Also, I have been told that 'doujin' and the things they make, are a large part of cartoon/comic fandom in Japan.

However, what I have seen here in the West, imported from Japan, is mostly pornographic 'doujinshi'. My question is, do 'doujin' make more porn than anything else, or are our importers just perverts?

Yes, there is a lot of non-porn doujinshi. Gag doujins or just parody ones and random fluffy ones that have no sexual content. However not so many people are interested in those I guess -_-

Novels, poets, clitiques, study reports, travel report, gourmet guide, recipe book, engineering textbook, technical database, fashion catalog, sex business guidebook, experience note of porn actress, etc. etc.
Those are genre of dojinshi I bought at comiket.
Not only book, I bought paintings, glass-workings, dolls, artillries, and all that.
Porn dojinshi is only a tip of an iceburg of giant Japanese subculture universe.
