Argh... this is driving me nuts. (19)

It's been bothering me lately. My IQ isn't what I want it to be. My testing averages mid 120s (one was 121, the other was 128), but that is simply not good enough for me. I'm a thinker, for crying out loud. My friends and coworkers count on me to make correct decisions. I enjoy nothing more than to take part in philosophical debates. Everyone I know tends to trust me for sound, logical advice.

But I keep getting horrible feelings of inadequacy whenever I think about my test scores. It just doesn't seem like ME, you know? I feel like I should be doing much better than that.

Do you guys think I'm taking this too seriously? What do you think I should do about this.

This kind of tests aren't exact, don't worry about it.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I guess I just don't like being quantified like that (ironic, of course, since I went out of my way to take those tests). Thanks for the input.

Don't worry. I got 154 in one and 135 in another. And while I'm quite capable of some very strange thinking, I for heaven's sake can't do complex maths. IQ isn't something to rely on, rely on what you achieve instead wich appears to be much so that should be enough for you.

It's not what your brain is capable of, but how you use it.

well, just for comparison purposes i made one without much attention and the result was 132. I got an higher score than you without even paying much attention to the bloody thing. Honestly, IQ is nothing but way to prove that you are smart, which is kinda futile.

a man is what he does, not what he could have done.

The thing is. your IQ is the capacity of your mind. You could have someone with a lower IQ that's "smarter" than a person with a higher IQ just because of how they use their mind. Someone with a higher IQ than you isn't necessarily smarter.

Besides, mid 120's is a bit above average and those tests aren't exact anyway, so don't worry yourself about it.

IQ does have value; however, there are WAY too many factors that can affect how you score. First of all, try to take an OFFICIAL test (not some online one). Second, make sure you have adequate sleep/focus. These two things alone can make a BIG difference. Also keep in mind IQ isn't always an accurate determination of intelligence. I took an online IQ test at 16 and it said around 125 which was very disappointing to me, but then later I went to a psychologist (or something, it was to test if I had ADD) and the intelligence tests they administered showed that I was in the 99%, same with the tests I took in school. So I mean, look for alternatives to the IQ test. It can be accurate and other times not. I believe most schools make you take some sort of test that gives you a certain percentile within areas, that is usually a good measure.

It's a better test because you received a higher score? That's poor reasoning.

i have never taken an IQ test before but i have worked alongside some educational psychologists & grad students. at the time i was studying probability and statistics. what i noticed was that:
educational psychologist != scientist

i concluded that what these tests actually observe are dysfunctional characteristics that can be beneficial in society, if that makes sense.
if you've ever seen a squirrel eating a nut in the grass, then you've probably noticed him bobbing his head up and down almost frantically keeping watch for predators. the squirrel does not focus entirely on his food. the squirrel divides his mindshare to a multitude of behaviors that are meaningful, continually.
however, if a squirrel could focus entirely on eating nuts, then that squirrel would be special. that squirrel would also be dead unless kept caged.
beautiful minds are continually running multiple processes in perpendicular dodecahedron hilbert space, seeking connections between them. they can never stop and run a single process for the sole purpose of a score, ever. but how can i put my penis in a vagina?

IQ tests are for people who want reassurance because of their small penis

No test is accurate anyway since all that most of them measure is the ability to solve puzzles. Man, if life were all about solving puzzles, it would be a shitload easier than this piece of shit I'm in now.

100 is average, mid 120s is way above average. 130 is considered gifted and only one in fifty score that high. Your classes and workplaces aren't the Mensa club. There's no reason for any of you to feel inadequate about "only" scoring in the mid 120s.
