right now I'm kinda frying in my own red-hot anger cause my dad won't fix our scanner...and probably never will...even tho he easily could....he just doesn't care...and I'm affraid to bug him about it or he'll get annoyed and my chances of it getting fixed will be like DOUBLE-NEVER....ever felt this way? what should I do...I think I'm gonna pray cause I need that scanner fixed-my art career depends on it.

what the fuck is wrong with your scanner?

Also, what operating system are you trying to interface with it?

something about my USB not working properly-my dad knows what the problem is, he's just too slow to fix it. None of the devices [like mp3 players] that we hook up to the comp work

Sounds bad, so... when's your deadline?

It might be possible to fix this with a Windows (I'm assuming) repair procedure from the disc. But then again, if it's hardware failure, it won't be so simple; you'd probably have to replace your motherboard.
Weird, I've never had a USB controller fail like that, what version of Windows is it, assuming it's Windows? You could always try pitching your problem in "Tech Support".

> art career

You have a 'career', yet you can't pay to get it fixed or replaced?

Erm... Could you maybe buy a usb/ps2 converter? I don't know if the scanner will be plug-and-play regognized that way (you usually only use these converters for mouse's) but it might work. You've probably got both your ps2 ports in use (with the keyboard and mouse). If the interface for your scanning program doesn't need a mouse (you can tab between buttons and alt to menus) then take out the mouse and use that ps2 port. If you need the mouse to work it, take out the keyboard and then copy-pasta the filename you want to save your scan as before hand.

Hope that helps! ^^;;

I've never heard of it being done, but that doesn't mean it's totally impossible... ^^;;

open the side of the comp and push the the wires where the usb ports are connected on the motherboard, they might b loose.

Poor lemonade in the scanner, it might be thirsty.

Thanks for the troubleshooting tip, Ace.
Let's fix a month old problem and electrocute ourselves doing it.

You meant to say "Power down the computer, switch off the power supply, and unplug the unit"?
Not everyone knows and respects simple safety measures.
