Memory loss (11)

The other day I woke up and I was already at work. Even more confusingly, I had apparently been doing work as normal for the first few hours of the day, although I remember none of this.

Has anyone else experienced blackouts that didn't involve the consumption of alcohol or other drugs? This is the first time it's happened to me while I wasn't intoxicated, and it was sort of scary.

Sounds kind of like you're narcoleptic... Maybe you should get checked for this. One of my friends is narcoleptic, and if she doesn't take her pills, she'll fall asleep in the middle of saying a sentence! When she wakes up, she'll just pick up the sentence where she left off. I don't think she forgets large amounts of time before she fell asleep, though... That sounds more like sleep amnesia...

Not quite as drastic, but I've had several similar occurences. Also (at least I think those two are somehow related) I often "wake up" at night just to see some weird people or creatures in my apartment and to perform some things that make perfect sense then but seem totally insane when I wake up in the morning, such as turning some furniture upside down or clothing a guitar.

I think he's talking about when you just do something without really thinking about it. For instance, I never remember the walk home when I walk alone because I get lost in my own thoughts. I don't remember looking both ways before crossing. I just look down at the pavement and think about stuff.

Scary times we live in. My own variety of brain malfunction is fucking with my sense of self-security big-time.

I don't just black out, but every once in a while, I just get dizzy and nauseous and pass out. First time it happened was in a shop class lecture in 7th grade, and when I went to the doctor, they didn't find anything wrong with me. Next time it happened was during a tour in a monastery in Meteora (Greece). Not a convenient place.

Nowhere near as extreme or disturbing, but I've experienced brief segments of 'missing time'. It always happens when doing something mundane and automatic, like brushing my teeth. I might start walking to the sink and end up back where I was five minutes later with a fresh mouth.

so basically, the conscious part of the brain shuts down, I suppose

it might be that you stand up too fast?

I am currently seeing a physician about a fainting episode I had over the summer - it turns out to be not such a biggie - just a head rush due to being in an inert state either laying down or sitting and standing up to quickly. On top of it all I was dehydrated and that made it all worse. U___U it sounds so dumb to say that you faint due to "head rush"- so crappy...
