Alright, story. I'm 20, and I had my last girlfriend at age 16. We broke up because she moved to another country and our love kinda ran out, but we remained friends. However, since then, I haven't truely liked someone. I've made out with a bunch of girls but ended up telling them that I didn't really like them. Are my standards just too high?

your standard probably aren't too high. For some people, it's hard to find somebody suitable enough, and that's fine, if annoying. If you didn't like them, you didn't like them.
The right girl is surely out there somewhere... good luck finding her.

its the same with me- I can't find a guy i would like - other than just eye-candy. Its been around 3-4 years since I had contact with another guy...(im a girl BTW)

I don't think your standards are high - but then again - what are you looking for in a girl? What do you want in an ideal relationship? What would your role in the relationship be? Why do you even want a relationship?

answer those questions and you may be at the heart of the problem.

OP here.

what are you looking for in a girl?
-Intelligence. Smartness. Sense of humour. An artistic person, in general.

What do you want in an ideal relationship?
-Mutual trust and companionship. Maturity, which is something I haven't found in years.

What would your role in the relationship be?
-I don't believe in 'roles', per se.

Why do you even want a relationship?
-Because I am a very romantic individual, and I always long for that significant other.

Your standards aren't too high, only more matured and realistic in comparison to your peers. You're looking for a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship and not just something to satisfy your lust. It's quite commendable, but the journey is frustrating. Rather than lowering your standards or something however, you're better off trying to get to know a girl better than what you initially see her as; you might've already found who you're looking for but you just haven't figured out her whole personality yet.

Yes, people are more than what they appear to be.

Sometimes.

Well, they say that to understand everything is to forgive everything, and I think that if you knew every single thing about any one person perfectly, you would love them.

Unless they happen to be a sociopath.

I was in your exact same position.

Last girl that I really liked that I dealt with, I was 16. I didn't find another girl that I could actually give a damn for until I was 20 (Just a few months ago).

Of course, when it came to her, I actually wanted a real solid relationship. She wanted only a fling/sex thing, and I didn't want that with her.. I guess?! (no homo)

Now im 21 and back on the search ;\

Guess we're just into a mature relationship I guess? Or theres barely any girls that are good enough to care for in the long run for us??

Easy to understand, you're still in love with your exgirlfriend, thats why you don't find any other that fills the space she left.
