Multiple Schlerosis (17)

I went to the doctor today and she said that I'm showing signs of MS. It runs in my family, so I was expecting it.

Walking with a cane is cool, right? The girls love it, don't they? I've actually found some really cool fantasy-like canes that I'm looking into, although I probably won't need one for a few years.

Does anyone else have MS? Any advice they can give me? I grew up with a mom who had it, but I heard that it's much worse if you have children, so mine might not be as bad as hers. Can I still be a successful gamer? When my mum was around, she was able to type on the computer at 60, but I'm not sure if it was difficult for her or not. If it mainly effects my legs, I don't think I'll have so much trouble with it, but I really don't want to lose the ability to use my hands successfully.

Worse comes to worse, I'm cosplaying Advent Children Rufus.

Wow that sucks. I don't know about fantasy canes and stuff but I know all the girls seem to go wild for House.

> a successful gamer

what

>>5 Meaning, will I still be able to use my hands in such a way as to continue playing videogames? I tested if I could today by putting gloves on my hands (Thus not allowing me to feel the keys under my fingers, as if I had MS) and trying to type. I actually had no problems at all. Next I'll be trying to use a controller in gloves. If I'm successful, I won't worry one bit about this.

Goodluck man, hope everything works out!

you have MS and your biggest worry is not being a good gamer?

>>8 What else should I be worried about? Not being able to walk doesn't bother me much, as I hardly do it anyway. Getting a car with hand controls (Where you control the speed with your hands rather than with your feet) isn't very expensive. Granted, I may have a weak bladder by the time I'm 50, but I'll be damned if there isn't a cure for MS by then. There's already a drug being tested by the FDA that stops MS from progressing (although not curing it completely). I can still work a desk job, too. I knew since I was a kid that I could have this, as my mother has it, so I planned my life in such a way as to be able to cope if I had it.

Oh, and I can play Halo 3 with gloves on my hands. All is good and dandy.

who the fuck doesn't worry about the fact that they might not be able to walk?!
"you might hardly do it anyway" but there's a big difference between not doing something you are able to do, and not being able to do something. get your fuckin' priorities straight.

>>10 Well, I guess so, but my mother (Who had MS) was able to walk with a cane until she was about 55. I won't be entirely unable to walk - just long distances.

I find it incredibly hard to believe how well you're dealing with this prospect. Probably because we're in a world of filled with complainers and egoists. I commend you (which funnily enough, no-one else has done) for being so optimistic, but you do kind of sound more resigned than ambitious.

OP here. My fingernails turned a purple-blue color two days ago, which (According to my EMS buddy) means that I'm having issues with poor circulation. This could potentially be the cause of all of the symptoms which my doctor related to MS (Numbness, headaches, vision problems). So, I'm hopeful! I have an appointment for Thursday to find out.

Oh, and in an ironic turn of events, I sprained my thumb yesterday. No video games for me for a while.

I'm starting to believe that there is a God. A sadistic, half-drunk God, who sits and laughs at things like this.

let us know what the results will be.
if I ever was faced to choose between one of my hands or my leg, i would choose a leg because the same reasons as the OP

i'm >>10 and i also would choose my leg, but because my hands are clearly more important in day to day life than my legs. but the reason that he gave was bullshit.

OP here. I just got back from my appointment. This doctor said that I'm having some sort of vascular problems, and he scheduled me for a follow-up exam for after Thanksgiving. So, it may not be MS!
