Emptiness (19)

Today, I started to feel empty. Not in the buddhist way, exactly.

This year in college has been kind of tough. Mainly because of personal issues (lack of money, among other reasons). You could say i lost my track, but a really important person helped me to focus in the finals. The last final was a couple of hours ago, the results are not out yet, but i believe i did well (taking into accont that i have been sleeping less than 4 hours lately).

As i was handing the last final, i started to feel empty. I believe (it's kind of obvious anyway) that it's because now, i haven't got any goal in my life. I'll be working this summer (southern hemisphere), but honestly i'm not looking forward to it.

Right now, i'm feeling so empty. And hungry. I just wanted to tell that to someone.

Hey, man. Someone listened, and feels sympathetic.

Thanks, thanks a lot.

it takes a long time find a reason, a sense of purpose that lasts long, or feels meaningful. Get some sleep, eat, and get outside. It'll happen. you are not your career, and everything so far is just really the first page. Haha, that sounded lame. My bad. Sorry. ^_^;;

>>2, that's nice, really. :)

Enjoy your small break after finals (hopefully you have one) and use it to find things you could base your goals on. Don't worry, there's still a lot of time for you to do so, there IS pressure, but not as much as you'd think.

Fuck, I have this problem too, where I'm under the impression that I should live my life all at once. To do it perfectly. I think that's gross delusion; a form of destructive perfectionism.

It's normal not to have a laser-guided locked-on, missile-launched, thirty-seconds-to-impact situation, especially right after a graduation.

I've been making a lot of very big personal realizations recently. Seeing good movies, reading books about this sort of thing, coming to terms with my ex-girlfriend (best that I'll get, anyway). It can get fucking draining, to be perfectly honest. Sometimes life simply leaves you with a desolate emptiness. I know what you're talking about.

But, you know what? Life is, for the most part, awesome. Think about some time you were happy. Were you working towards something? The finals, maybe? Having no goal for yourself WILL suck the life out of you, because you'll feel like you have nowhere to go but down, essentially. Remember always that that is never true. You can always improve yourself. Do you not have any academic goals in the near future? Set a social goal. Go spend time with family; or, if you are not on good terms with them, friends. It helps infinitely to get out of the house and mobile. While you're working, try to schedule other time just to relax and shoot the breeze with whoever you like to be around. If you ever start to feel drained, remember that your friends enjoy your company just as much as you enjoy theirs. They should support you, should you open up your feelings to them. How about that very close person? Do you know that they enjoy knowing you very much? Take solace in that.

Have you ever read this blog? http://guide2homelessness.blogspot.com/ (If you haven't and you have time to kill, I strongly recommend it, even if you aren't looking for the advice it contains [it will open your eyes to a new perspective on the world]) In all honesty, at least you aren't homeless. This is to cure your hunger (literally and figuratively), at the very least. Let me quote: "Breathe deeply. Do you have any money at all? If you do, spend it on a good meal, even if you are spending every dime. Get a good meal, and sit in a warm place eating it, with friendly people serving it. Eat and enjoy, and think about good things. Think about your favorite color, your best friend when you were in grade school, how flannel feels when you rub it between your fingers. Think about those gold coin chocolates that always made you feel rich even though the chocolate was waxy and tasted like tin. When you were a kid, you had a knack for feeling rich when you had next to nothing. " If you want my opinion, read those words and know them. Look up at the sky, and breath the air from the trees. Go camping and live in a forest for a week. Tumble down a hill full of clovers, go catch a lion, lie down in the bed of a river, be the words sung by the waitress at your local jazz café. Or just read a good book. You can do it.

I'm in a similar situation. I have no future career choices. I did two years of university and then dropped out. For how long until I return, I don't know. I went on vacation over the summer, and it was the best thing I did for myself. I agree with some of the other comments here such as reading books and just doing what interests you. I believe that pursuing these interests enables you to discover more about yourself so you can acquire a better feel for a career using your experiences as a judgement guide.

it all depends on where in your own life you are. ive been through both emptiness and a really good life, and back and forth. life's never easy, or always fun, but if you're depressed then try to get away from the depressing factors in life, and work, or create a craft or a task, like drawing. it can be really helpful to not dwell on things that bother you rather than obsessing over them. it just wastes time that you could be spending earning money. And when you have money, you have more freedom to move about, and really explore things in life.

yeah, life is hard sometimes, but not all the time.

> Life is for the most part awesome? Get the f### out of here. Don't lie.

On the contrary. Do Lie.
Lie to yourself and everyone around you.
You'd be amazed how easy it gets to lie to yourself and believe the lie while knowing the truth.

No, that's mystical bullshit. You can't smile away cancer.

I'm just saying, lie to yourself.
If you feel worthless, you're probably right.
If you died tomorrow, the world wouldn't stop for a second.
But if you convince yourself that you're worth a little more than nothing, life gets a little more tolerable.

Life is shit, but people get by regardless by believing in lies.
There's no secret here.

Keep watch for awhile, tracking how many times per week she behaves in a scary or strange fashion. If it increases in frequency, then talk to a local counselor or a doctor about your next steps in helping her and safeguarding yourself.

Its hard to take care of yourself first in a stressful situation like this, but you have to take care of yourself first before you can do anything else. ^_^
