;_; don't do that.

5 Name: Anonymous : 2008-01-24 05:25 ID:X+zM7LJ0

if you fail at everything then your life has no value, therefore, you have the ultimate liberty to do whatever you damn please. go swim with sharks, fuck an aids infected hooker, go to the south pole and hunt polar bears, steal from your boss, kill your boss. everything is valid now.

6 Name: Anonymous : 2008-01-24 06:23 ID:Llb3UWr3

no, you don't fail at everything, you just fail at self esteem and self honesty. You probly win at bein a whinger, being humble, and probably soem good stuff too.

>go to the south pole and hunt polar bears

That wouldn't be all that successful, seeing as how polar bears are at the north pole.

Well,... struggling with depression and low self-esteem is no easy fight. I guess one has to realize that and take these problems seriously.

If you have cancer, you need to go to the doctor, undergo treatments, be brave and steadfast. Depression and low self-esteem are as serious an issue, but it's much harder to define the problem and fight against it, because the problem is in your head/mind, not just in some part of your body.

But are you at least good at failing? Because, if that's your talent, run with it...

Somebody out there loves you.
You'd only put them through pain by doing so.

I realized I don't fail at a lot of things.

But the things I fail at are the only ones that matter to me.

That's unfair.

Is there a way you could fail in a way that's at least more fun?

I remember hearing Louis CK talk about working at a job where he just knew he was going to get fired any day. At that point, when his manager would come up to him and say "hey, could you scrape the gum out from under the tables?" he'd say "yes" and never do it, and then count how many times the manager would come back to him and ask him whether he did it, or demonstrate that he hadn't done it, etc...

Same thing happen to me.
Doesn't it suck to fail at trying to kill yourself?

Not when no matter how hard you try, something exterior to your will comes and brings the whole thing down. But I agree with you, I keep trying.

Even if that is true, they don't necessarily have to find out.

Kind of hard not to find out that your sibling/parent/child/friend/coworker/roommate/love/lover just took their own life.

Trying, and falling short of a goal, is always better than just giving up.

Fight for what you want out of life; Find whatever motive you need to win.
Do it for those that care about you and want you to succeed,
Do it out of spite for those that want to see you fail,
Do it to give those that need you a better life than you ever had,
Do it for the happiness that you deserve as much as anyone else,
Do it when you're at the bottom because the only place you can go from there is up,
Do it because there's always hope, and that's all you need.

And when the only thing you're willing to fight for is something you'll never have and all the rest became pointless?

Note that I'm not thinking about killing myself. Even if I think what I said. I won't do it not to hurt those who sacrificed a lot for me, and placed hopes in me. But I can understand that someone with slightly less willpower than me would do it. Or at least think about it seriously.

Not if he/she did it far enough away that word would never reach my ears, or if the body was never found.

21 Name: Caterine Vaughan in bed with Sweeney Todd : 2008-01-27 03:37 ID:xvosKFrS

This is the tale of an ordinary man, who had everything...

Barker, his name was. Benjamin Barker.

Until a man of power stole his freedom, destroyed his family and banished him... for life. And in his sorrow a new man was born...Sweeney Todd

Sweeney Todd: [sung] They all deserve to die/Tell you why, Mrs. Vaughan, tell you why/Because in all of the whole human race Mrs. Vaughan there are two kinds of men and only two/There's the one staying put in his proper place and one with his foot in the other one's face/Look at me, Mrs Vaughan! Look at you!/ No, we all deserve to die/ Even you, Mrs Vaughan, even I!

Keep fighting, settle for less, move on or be happy with what you have.

Then the you obsess for years over him/her, putting up posters with his/her picture, wasting air time on America's Most Wanted (or whatever), and starting foundations in their name.
It's even worse if you can't move on with their lives.

That's true enough as it goes for a sudden disappearance, but I'd think a gradual disappearance would cause much less of a stir. People, after long periods of separation, drop out of contact all the time, and nobody starts up poster campaigns because of it. Phone calls, letters, then... nothing.

Who would do that only to off themselves?

26 Name: Anonymous : 2008-01-28 00:12 ID:YYlMYc6x

Probably people who want to be forgotten, and not attention whoring.

There are some amongst the suicidal.

27 Name: Anonymous : 2008-01-28 00:41 ID:Heaven

Also anyone who realizes the profound ethical problems inherent to insufficiently-planned suicide attempts. To kill oneself without simulteneously hurting others in the process is a task that requires a great amount of effort, and many years of patience and dedication.

If a suicidal person has that kind of dedication, they are probably quite successful and by no means a failure.

>>If a suicidal person has that kind of dedication, they are probably quite successful and by no means a failure.

That doesn't mean they still wouldn't want to commit suicide anyway. You don't have to be a skid-row bum to want to off yourself. Hell, I bet most of the bums actually want to live.

At least people who succeed at offing themselves were able to succeed at something.

31 Name: Anonymous : 2008-02-16 10:41 ID:f47F/37p

No shit. The saddest thing is someone who fails at life so hard that they even fail at suicide.

32 Name: Anonymous : 2008-02-16 17:24 ID:J1QiVo5x

OP, nope. You WIN at these things:

-being short and concise
-admitting to your faults
-being honest with yourself about feelings of failure
-probably other things...

So he tried to fail and he succeeded?

34 Name: Anonymous : 2008-02-16 23:54 ID:7+fL6jbF

IMHO, most people are not worked up because they fail, It is probably because society do not recognise your efforts or your attempt in doing your best. When your surroundings fail to see 'you', it hurts.

The world is full of competitions, your bosses, your family, your friends, your peers, your rivals... all those surrounding you, when they refuse to look at you, it always feels like you're a failure.

It is always best to live for yourself, believing in your own confidence, build that foundation in you. Even if failure keeps coming at you, you are ready to pick yourself up and go at it again.
