Self Improvement Thread (70)

My current personal goals:

  1. Growing up. Becoming a mature and independent person. I've been working on this for the past three or four years or so, I suppose (I'm 20 years old now). And I believe all is going well in that department, even if I may be lagging behind the rest of my age group in some aspects, while being ahead of them in others. I still live with my parents and have little experience with life as an adult, but my philosophy of life might be fit for a wise old man.
  2. Physical exercise. I now do as many push-ups and sit-ups and the like as I can handle without overexerting and feeling like shit the next morning, before brushing my teeth in the evening. I started this around December 2007, and I've been making perceptible improvement since then. :)

I use a method of counting down to zero from a given number. For example, at first I would I first do six push-ups, then pull up one knee and give my arms rest two or three seconds, then do five more, rest again, then four more, etc. It's a much better method than just doing 21 in one go. At first I had to start at six (21 total); I can now start at nine (45 total) and still pull it off all the way to zero, without feeling sore the next day. Yay.
I'm working on strength, stamina and flexibility now. I think I should also practice balance and precision, but I haven't found a way to practice those yet.

3. Learning to talk to people without being nervous. Finding the serenity and confidence to be a more open-hearted person. I hope to find this kind of confidence as I grow up.

4. Improving my willpower. Growing a spine. (See http://4-ch.net/personal/kareha.pl/1204476773/l50.)

5. Learning to draw, and perhaps to play the guitar. I'm not a bad artist, but I rarely find time to practice drawing. I'm a poor guitarist.
