im not proud of liking that shiat so much but shit what's with society obsession with being normal and perfect? humans are all insane anyway, but most of us don't have the guts to show it!

Yeah, not so much. I'm much more likely to bring up horror movies, American comics, sci-fi novels... Hell, I'm more likely to talk about role playing than anime.

I love anime to death, but I'm not into manga, toys/collectables, conventions and so on. Not sure if I'm otaku or not.

If you knew the EXTREMELY negative stigma attached to that word and the story of the infamous otaku murderer and the evangelion murderer, I doubt you'd be so quick to declare how proud you are of being one.

>Another murderer seemingly influenced by Japanese pornography and anime was Tsutomu Miyazaki, a.k.a., "the Little Girl Murderer." As a boy, Miyazaki was physically challenged and he thus developed into a loner who thrived on fantasy and comic books. Highly sexed, he moved on to child pornography and reportedly collected thousands of videos, as well as Japanese anime, or live action films based on cartoons. Apparently, he was influenced by horror films, especially the series of "Guinea Pig" films, and there is speculation that the second one in that series became a model for one of his murders.

Yeah.. Uh.. Being known as 'highly sexed' isn't so bad...

Evangelion murderer?

I'm proud of being an Otaku, myself, I have no shame in it... I proudly display anime & gamer merchandise at my desk at work, go to several anime conventions and cosplay through the year, attend an Anime club in the area, and (I know, "gasp, omg"), even have a girlfriend who's into the same things)

I know in Japan, Otaku have been given a bad name, because of their overly nerdiness (to the point of obsession), and because of the actions in the past of one or two nutjobs, but remember, films like Densha Otoko also caused a recent acceptance & popularity of Otaku in Japan, and I say this from experience, having a friend who is staying in Japan this past year, as well as a friend who's a teacher in Korea who traveled to the Tokyo Game Show this past year, and was amazed at the lack of sneering at Otaku these days by most people;

To anyone not proud of being an Otaku, I can only say that there's simply no reason not to be, and as Shakespeare said, To thine own self be true! At the end of the day, it's only yourself you have to answer to and judge yourself by, noone else!

I'm Otaku, and proud because I would rather be otaku then some conformist robot.

Then again, pride should be determined by personal motives, ideals and insight, rather than by any kind of social label.

Hence, lol. You're a conformist in your sub-group. Be proud of that.

Indeed. Murdered his family with a baseball bat. Here's some info:

I can't say I am. It's the one thing I try desperately to keep out of view from other people, which leads them to think I'm a boring person. Oh well. I'd prefer to enjoy the company of figurines, anime characters, and j-pop over real people anyway. Atleast the anime characters make me feel happy, and not like a living piece of shit.

Not really, but I use the term to describe myself and similar people because it's quicker to type than anime/manga/touhou fan and more specific than geek.

Well people who call themselves Otaku tend to like the shit stuff from Japan.

22 Name: Anonymous : 2008-04-29 18:46 ID:yUQMneNe

Even if it's a word that can be used to immediately convey the idea of love of things from Japan, I really don't like using it at all, and dislike when other use it aswell. That's probably just me, though.

Who cares. He likes what he likes and he isn't changing for anyone. I personally like all those same things too (with the loli being the exception.)

I'm constantly watching romance shows, both drama and anime. So my mind which was already way too bullshit romantic for my own good, is only getting more and more fucked up.

Life is grand.

>>18 touhou?

i am an Otaku, however i have learned to not let it be overwhelming, i try to keep my school life and otaku life separate for the most part. but i am a member of the anime club at school X3

otaku unite!! :D

32 Name: Anonymous : 2008-05-22 01:30 ID:0R6v9yd4

Touhou is a series of danmaku (curtain fire) shooting games. The characters therein have gained a life of their own from the fandom, so the series has a decent following. Check it out on youtube or if you're curious.
Cirno is love!

I love anime, but I don't consider myself an otaku. Geez its so lame to call yourself one, even cuz you don't speak Japanese! I have tons of other interests too, its just one part of me.

34 Name: Anonymous : 2008-05-26 14:38 ID:Heaven

suddenly, trolls. Thousands of them.

35 Name: Anonymous : 2008-05-27 21:14 ID:onpU9u/O

I am proud of being myself.
Otaku-dom is part of that self.
