I'm 21 but look 17!! How to look older? (52)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2009-01-12 15:29 ID:QMOg4lkw

I'm a dude who's turning 21 in a months time and it looks like I haven't aged a day since I was 17...

A friend tagged an old picture of me on Facebook and it was shocking to see how little I've aged.

When I dress right..layers, collared shirts, long sleeves, wear contact lenses, do my hair right etc. I do look slightly older but I still look very young. I still have some babyfat in my cheeks and my face isn't as angular as I'd like it to be, weak jaw and only sparse facial hair...

It's really frustrating, seeing how some friends who had babyfaces in the past and looked kid-ish shed their babyfat and now they look older than me.

I've started working out to get (hopefully) bigger, and I'm working on getting more classy clothes that fit better as well...any other tips on how to shed the babyface? Short of getting plastic surgery.

If his facial hair is patchy, like he says, the last thing he needs is stubble.

I think you should start dealing with face yoga. Do your cheeks!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMJX0xIWj-w
and look at his other videos about the face and how to reduce the fat on the cheeks. Good stuff, trust me!

If your face hair is patchy, find a moustache style that misses the patches. Avoid being in public while it grows in if you need to. Differently styled moustaches always make people think of you as older, even if it doesn't really make you look much older than a normal one. If you think your face hair is too light use an old drama club trick, get some mascara to darken & thicken it.

As far as face fat goes, general exercise is the simplest solution. You probably don't really want to build muscle in your face, and you'll burn fat everywhere evenly. Of course 'babyfat' doesn't really look different from any other type of fat, so it probably has less of an anti-age effect than you think, you're probably just self-conscious about it.

Also, instead of changing to contacts, you should just think about a different style of glasses. I think it's always worth the time to spend a few hours looking at glasses styles when you get new ones, it's basically an everyday accessory, so it'll have a lasting effect.

I honestly have the opposite problem- people tend to think I'm significantly older than I really am. It really sucks sometimes, but I'm too stubborn/lazy to do anything about it.

Fuck it. They're going to be looking like they're old as shit when they're older.

You? You're going to look like you're 40 when you're over the hill.

And 17? Weaksauce. I look like I'm 12 in damn near all aspects.

I'm about 25.

Ugh, I hate when people say "In ten years, you'll be glad!!!" Fuck that, in ten years all the good girls will be snapped up by the people that looked their normal age.

I have a beard, but I still get figured very young all the time.

>in ten years all the good girls will be snapped up by the people that looked their normal age.

Well, divorce is your friend, not to speak of all the young chicks available to you in ten years.

But really, that's hardly a reason for blocking you. There's plenty of couples of widely age mismatched people.

Carry yourself like your 25. Body language will say alot for you without saying it.

For the chubby face, get on some cardio or something. Find something you enjoy doing and stick with it.

Yeah, the 10 years thing doesnt help the man now. Now is the isssue. Make it happen

OP here. Thanks for all the replies.

I'm working in a customer service job part time and I got mistaken for a 17 year old AGAIN by a customer. My university orientation camp is coming up and looking like a kid isn't going to be good...

It's so frustrating. I've tried eating more to build up mass but I'm still as scrawny as ever. I figure since I can't change the face (damn genes) I'll work on my body instead since I've seen guys who have young faces but are buff and it helps...but even then it seems I'm cursed by my dad's scrawny body genes...

fashion wise, I live in a tropical country so more often than not anything more than a t shirt and jeans would make me sweat buckets. I already wear shirts when I'm going out in the evenings.

OP, I know exactly how you feel. For some reason I never lost all the baby fat in my cheeks so I look like a high school student even though I'm 21 and in college. It felt bad to see all my friends grow up while I stayed the same. I pretty much have no confidence when it comes to many things like girls or getting a job.

Reading these posts have given me a little hope. Unfortunately, I am half Japanese so I can't grow a beard even if my life depended on it. But, I think I will try out the face exercises from the links above. It would be awesome if I could somehow work my way up to the way that guy's face looks. I highly doubt I could though... Anyways, even though I hate it when people tell me "oh it will all pay off in 10 years and you will look so young!" I may have to just wait for that to happen. But even then, I'm worried I still might look like a high school student in my 30's. Ugh...

OP here. I'm Chinese and didn't get the good facial hair genes either.

Let's hope it turns out well for both of us. I've slacked off from doing the facial exercises though =x

Lol at the facial exercises...I would've thought that gave you wrinkles, before trimming down cheek fat.

If you want to look old, act old. You can speak a lot through your actions, the way you speak, and how you carry yourself.

OP, I feel your pain >_>;;

The other day a lady asked me if this was my last year participating in a summer camp. However, the oldest you can be to participate in said camp is 6th grade.
I just graduated high school (12th grade) T_T

I think being a Japanese girl doesn't help anything.

Aren't youthful appearances a bonus when you get older? I would be glad if I were you.

31 Name: Anonymous : 2009-12-10 23:31 ID:7VVXnNL5

No, youthful appearance is not a bonus when you get older. If you look like a kid when you're 20-30 then you will look like a kid with wrinkles when you get older :P

Looking older or younger isn´t such a big deal...unless you care too much for your appearance, which is pretty shallow. Besides, I look younger too (I´m 25 and people think I´m 18), but I´m kinda liking it as time goes by! lol. See the bright side of it: When everybody will look terrible, you´ll still seem a young man :D

Are u for real?? I'm 21 and when i was in my early teen years all the way till 17 i wished and begged to look older and grow taller (I always looked 4-5 years younger for some reason). As soon as i turned 18 and then 19 i started missing highschool a lot and started telling people i was 17 1 or 2 years younger than my real age. I'm now 21 and people think that i'm 15/16 and i dont argue w/them. I have a baby face and i love it. I see these people and highschool and i can blend right in! No way do i wanna look older hell fucking no!!! I'm just so glad to have my youth, i dont wanna get older and every year i get older i cringe!! I wish i could have stayed at 16.

I'm 27 and I always get confused for 18. It's kinda fun now. One instance I remember was when my wife and I had just moved into these new apartments 2 years ago and my next door neighbor came over to great us. Well the first thing she asked was "are your parents home, I'd like to meet them". So figuring out quickly that she thought I was much younger I immediatly said my parents were out at the moment and I couldn't speak with strangers so I closed the door gently. Later on in the week I came home to find her sitting in the living room chatting it up with my wife. Talk about being busted. I just told her I get tired of explaining my age and it's just easier to let people think what they want and move on.

I haven't aged since I was 11. Same height, same face, same creepy smile, the only thing different is I lost about 60 pounds and I grew a beard, but once the beard is gone everyone thinks I'm 11-13 years old.

That would be fantastic, if I could actually touch people, but I can't. As soon as I touch someone else's skin I grab a bottle of hand sanitizer. Skin really disgusts me.

39 Name: Anonymous : 2010-01-23 03:55 ID:L3YL/qGt

OP, do you honestly believe there's a significant difference between 21 and 17? :p Because there isn't. Kids who change drastically year to year from their teens to early adulthood are going to look like shit when they get older.

Once you get a little older no one is going to say, "Oh are you 28? I thought you were 24 or something." You can't tell the difference between a handful of years in adults. You should be thankful, because at 21 you've pretty much stopped maturing and you are most likely going to look young for the rest of your life.

I'm 29 and and get confused for 18. I really don't see how this happens. I guess it is hard to tell a persons age by looking at them. I've actually thought of going around telling people I'm 20 and see if I can get away with it.

41 Name: Anonymous : 2010-12-25 20:11 ID:EeINjDmS

im 18 but i'm off to Vegas next year, all the places there are like restricted to people under 21, so how do i look 21 in about 6 months??

Yeah? well being as your a man you stop aging at 21. dont worry the wrinckles will pack on as years pass. You need to keep in mind being in your 20s is classed as a Young adult.... or some shit. I think the nose continues to grow so wait a few years and you will look alot diffrent.

Hey honestly, im turning 21 and still look 18 and yeah it sucks but you just gotta have confidence. victim of a baby face with bad facial hair genes. fuck it. Pick a unique hairstyle, shave every 2 days so that ur facial hair could grow out faster, and get a good selection of mature clothes. i dont care how young ur face is, if your confidence, style and swagger is 21, you ARE 21. remember that. CONFIDENCE. your putting too much stress on your self.

Also: I'm 27, but people often say I look like I'm around 20. It's not a big deal. In fact, since I'm getting older now, I'm pretty happy about my youthful features. Since my hair is starting to go white, they won't be around for much longer, so I should enjoy them while I can.
