So I'm taking Math 3... which is Algebra in college.... am I an idiot or what? I just can't seem to grasp any mathematics to no degree... what are yall suggestions? 18, MATH FAILURE. How did I graduate again?
Work on your memory and comprehension. Seriously. A equation such as the following:
(x+3)^2
Is solved in discrete, logical steps. It can then be written:
(x+3)(x+3)
Which is as simple a form as you could possibly have. To solve it all you have to do is remember that multiplication is distributive, i.e. a(a+b) = aa + ab = a^2 + ab, and that like terms must be combined afterwards (4x + 4x = 8x, or alternatively if this confuses you then set x = 1 and "plug it in", obtaining 4(1) + 4(1) = 8(1), which exposes the placeholder nature of variables.)
Terms (constants, variables, their powers and their coefficients) outside parenthesis are sequentially multiplied by those inside. The same is true whether you have (a+b)(a+b), (a+b+c)(a+b), (a+b)(a+b)(a+b), etc. So our old friend (x+3)^2 = x^2 + 3x + 3x + 9 = x^2 + 6x + 9.
My concluding advice for you at this point is to stop thinking you're unable to learn mathematics. It's really just based off a very simple foundation which soon takes on what looks to be complex appearances because the simple rules are merely compounded upon themselves.
