Earlier this year someone found an old book of cheques that I had left in an old apartment on accident and started cashing them. When the bank alerted me that these cheques were going through I immediately froze the account and went down there to check it out. These ass-holes had been writing 900 dollar cheques and cashing them out of town. So I file police reports and hand all the info over to my bank. Fast forward to today, I never got my money back. The bank said they were going to deposit it back into my account but never did. Even worse is the woman who was my contact at the bank and handled all of the paper work for this retired! Now I'm being told that I only had 60 days from the time the cheques were written to file police reports and be reimbursed?! Come on! There HAS to be something that can be done about this. I haven't contacted the bank where they were cashed yet but my bank tells me that they'll probably say the same thing. I don't have copies of the police reports because I gave them to my bank. Does anyone know what someone in this situation could do?
Did you continually call your bank to see what's up? My friend was in a similar situation as you, but the moment that the bank said that they would transfer the money back, he would call them everyday just to check up on the status of the transfer. Something like this usually requires persistent nagging on your part to every party just for something to get done, or at least, that's what my friend said.
It's true. Any service industry will tell you that only by complaining can you make any difference. If you're not getting the response you need, ask to speak with a supervisor. And if that doesn't help, ask for their manager. Keep it up until you get someone that will take action because they genuinely care or will refund the cash just to get rid of you.
I agree with >>2,3. You shouldn't have waited this long, but if you are persistent, you might be able to get something done. Keep asking for higher people on the rung until you get somebody willing to fix you up. Keep reiterating that the bank told you they were going to deposit the money back into your account, and hold them to that.
