I am 17. I will no longer be allowed to live with my parents when I turn 18. I will turn 18 in October.
I am asking for advice.
I am a senior in high school. I probably won't go to college due to severe social phobias I have. The application process requires me to talk to people. This is the same reason I can't get a job. Please don't tell me to just "Get over it" or something. You probably don't understand what I'm talking about. I felt it was necessary to include the previous sentence because I've asked for similar advice before and that's usually the response I get.
Back on topic. I have about $120. I'm not sure how long that will last me at McDonalds. I am not sure what I will do for shelter. I don't have any friends or family. I can't just move in.
I'm not sure if I'll finish high school. In all honesty, I'll probably die of starvation by March next year. I don't want this to happen. I'm not good at anything and I just want some ideas of what to do.
I can't talk to people. Period. Please don't suggest this. There are very rare circumstances where I can, but this only happens with certain people I consider my peers.
One option is to look for a men's shelter in your area.
Also, you could look for a job at Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (assuming you live in US, but you may still be able to get a job there otherwise- google them).
Military? It might be easier socially since you aren't you there you are just a soldier so its kind of like role playing.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody. If anybody wanted to tell me something, they'd have to write it on a piece of paper and shove it over to me. They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life.
Well, this will be good for getting over that social phobia. You'll soon have to make a choice between talking to someone in order to eat or starving to death, and after 2 days of not eating your survival instinct is going to say "fuck this".
I suppose you could go to a shelter, but if you do you will have to talk to a therapist and if you don't have a job after x months they will kick your ass out.
$120 will last you about 2-3 months, but you'll probably be mugged and left with nothing, if not outright killed, before that happens.
This is going to suck for a while, but ultimately I think it'll be good for you, because only one of two things will happen; you'll die, or you'll get over your stuff and be able to function properly. Social phobia is a privilege for those who aren't starving or in danger of being killed or living on the street.
If you end up begging, sit on your legs so it looks like your a gimp. Folks have more sympathy for someone with physical disabilities. And if someone trips over you, grab your kidney and groan loudly.. that's worth at least a $60 donation!
Best place to hustle is around the corner from an ATM. Avoid witty or verbose signs, a simple 'HELP ME' on distressed cardboard is like having a license to print money.
Don't ask me how I know all this, because I don't, I'm just making it up as I go along.
You say not to give you advice to speak to someone but there really is no other way. You have two options
1)ask for help or 2)live on the streets and slowly whither away
Go make an appointment with the school guidance counselor, they will be able to help organizations etc that may be able to help you with this.
You aren't alone in having problems like this, i was turfed out of home when i was younger without a moments notice and had no belongings or money. I managed to find a place to live and money to get by on fairly quickly. There are organizations out there to help in situations like these, that is, if you actually seek it out.
I turned out alright, currently studying for a professional degree.
Once you find the guts to seek a therapist or something, you'll probably find it easier to strive for yourself.
Good luck and please keep us informed.
