How many people are aware of it? The effects of it, and why it is almost impossible to prevent at this point?
it's hardly a malthusian catostrophy. oh no, our economic system has collapsed and we can't use combustion engines any more, certainly this is the end of humanity despite the rather obvious fact that the continuation of humanity only requires the production of food which hasn't been a problem since the green revolution.
if you want to be crazy paranoid you should at least focus on something more worrying like negative ecological feedback loops.

those combustion engines are quite often necessary to get the food from the field to your plate
drastically reduced oil resources could be a blessing
perhaps consider new york with a quarter the traffic and electric trolley cars
Except for the fact that, pretty much ALL of modern farm equipment, IE: the technology that allows us to produce such massive yields of food from crops, won't be available. Nor will the vehicles needed to transport it. So calling me "crazy", doesn't really work. Unless you're referring to yourself.
Stockpile firearms and the future will always be bright.

Until you run out of ammo, or a ninja cuts your throat while you're sleeping.

The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and kill people. Ninjas fight ALL THE TIME.
That's very gay.
I hate how people think that if oil runs out, we're going to be returning to the fucking stone age.
We will.
Oil was created by freak accidents that were blinks of the eye in geological time. Currently, we have had exponential booming and development of every industry and technology because of cheap oil. Oil will not run out - it will simply become not economically feasible to siphon out oil that has no reservoir pressure.
No oil = no gasoline, no farm equipment running, no cars to take you to work, no manufacturing, energy generators? will run on wind and solar? for entire cities? hospitals without electricity...
Not to mention that farming is extremely labor intensive b/c most commercial crops are grown from single season seeds (think single serving sugar packets - good for now, screw the later)
Saving the remote possibility of a global catastrophe that destroys all technology, libraries, and cities, leaving no one alive besides twelve year old illiterates...
I don't believe the entire planet will ever be going back to the stone age at any point in the future.
Gasoline can be made from coal, and in many countries it is being done on a large industrial scale already. Google for "Fischer-Tropsch Process."
