I'm not calling anyone an idiot, I'm the idiot in this case. I haven't had more than a passing interest in politics, most of it is beyond me. I can't grasp a lot of the concepts people stand up and regurgitate all day. So how do I become informed in time for this upcoming election? I would like to vote with a little more authority than mindless drone but as I surf the web and listen to speeches and watch the news I find it's all beyond me.
The five-fold path to voting enlightenment in the next US election:

Where would you get information about their voting records then?
Oh wow I completely forgot about http://govtrack.us. It’s a much more agreeable system, ignore the above post and visit this website and browse around categories and such.
Is it just me or does Sarah Palin, at first glance, look like Monica Lewinsky?
Like Monica, but so much less likely to suck dick. Truly, 100% full-on Americana.
I hate to say it, but Palin has done so much for Obama, it hurts. I was almost cool with McCain until he did this. He could have picked any random white Republican in the Senate and I would have voted Green/Peace and Freedom out of principle. Oh well, Obama to the Max!

The only news source you can remotly trust is the wall street journal.
Anywho, you can also get ahold of the library of congress and govtrack.us to get the candidates past records and then compare it to today.
Also, watch out for palin. shes been caught lying and was called out for it.

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
It wasn't terribly good prior to the buyout, but now it's a mess and ought to be ignored.
this is now true, with Murdoch in charge of the WSJ now it is about as reliable as Fox News. There are a plethora of news options now with the internet available to most US citizens (local library if nothing else). TV news is the worst and should be ignored completely or enjoyed for comic relief if anything...
I'd recommend foreign news networks like the BBC or Al-Jazeera. They are not as dumbed down, soundbite-obsessed and willing to unashamedly flaunt their biases as US news.
Also, AP is another good one.
BBC as >>11 said is quite a bit more reliable. Though be wary of al jazeera at times, they occasionally have your...less than desirable "news" (read opinion) shows on.
Obamas now president of the nation of america! does this mean the white house is going to be like sanford and son now??? does this mean there will be a kfc in the white house now?????
