So what does the "ch" in 4-ch stand for? Chan? Channel?
I have witnessed that the 2ch'ers call their 2ch very often "2-chan" (not "2chan"). It's very confusing. 4chan? 4-chan? 4-channel?
The chan is for channel in both 2ch and 2chan. It's kept straight like this:
2ch = ni channel (two channel)
2chan = futaba channel (two leaves channel, kind of hard to explain, but in Japanese numbers are pronounced differently depending on what they are counting. Sort of like the difference between saying "two channel" and "second channel".)
4-ch's name hasn't been announced by it's creators, so I'm not sure how they want it to be said.
4chan = yotsuba channel (similar to futaba, but four instead of 2) Personally, I think it's confusing for an English language site to use such an un-obvious Japanese pronunciation, but if you are familiar with the Japanese boards, it makes sense.
I have no idea how the hell you are suppose to say it.
I named it after the general principal that >>2 has stated. 2ch is the Japanese discussion boards, thus, 4ch is therefore the English version. Somewhat.
How do I pronounce it? Usually just "four-cee-h"... or something like that. I suppose the Japanese would pronounce it something like Yon-channeru . 4-channel could be a decent way of pronouncing its name, as people understand "4-chan" as , well, 4chan.org . I might start using instead.
note: I would have used 4ch.net as opposed to 4-ch.net however some bastard already took the domain. This is the best 2nd place option.
hrm.
bugger.
