I don't know if Squeeks feels like adding any boards yet, but just to catalog what people want for when he gets around to it, here's a thread for discussion what boards you'd like to see. I'll start off with some requests for topics dear to my hear:
I don't know about programming. I'd definitely inhabit it, but I don't think there's enough volume to split it off yet.
Fine arts, yay. I'd have a soapbox on which to rant about literature. ;p
> but I don't think there's enough volume to split it off yet
Well, remember that having a dedicated board lowers the threshold for starting discussions. I know I'd talk a lot more about programming if there was a board for it.
Re: Adding more boards.
I'd rather have more traffic, posts, readers and people replying first. When traffic goes up, more boards go in, and I'll use this thread as a way to organise what topics will be covered.
Oh, I fogot to mention my views on a programming board.
Yes I am interested in it, however it would probably go beyond a programming board, and offering a mini-site where users can collaborate small or large scripts/programs, and I would have no problem hosting downloads for the said results of this community. Your response just for fixing the image rotation on the front page was great, and if the programming-savvy around here want to work together to make solutions not only for this site, but for other random things, I would have no qualms supporting it.
> I'd rather have more traffic, posts, readers and people replying first.
Just as WAHa said, though, some issues and subjects just don't come up without a board for it.
I found there is no category of "economy" for me to inhabit...
I'm depressed to be die..
I think right now that can go in /politics/ if it's theoretical.
Otherwise, yeah, there could be use for one.
For the time being, /general/ is the place to put things that have no home yet. I wont be adding any more boards until the current boards in place get to see more posts, threads and people looking at them.
Actually, I think an /acamedics/ board would be grand. Possibly two, for better sorting of subjects:
a board for stuff like http://roexpose.hopto.org/ib/senti/res/227.htm would be nice...
electric waves and flower gardens
http://etc3.2ch.net/denpa/
There's been thoughts of creating a seperate lounge for all kinds of languages. Something akin to 2ch's http://academy4.2ch.net/gogaku/
This entirely depends on whether there's user demand for it, though.
IT'd be nice to have a "Love and Romance" or similarly themed board under Lifestyle
Maybe a more general board for relationships & personal life...
I have a feeling Love and Romance would be somewhat deserted.
Try posting in "General" if you really need advice, although that board tends to resemble DQN lite.
>>16 sounds like a good idea. I'd go with turning the Japanese board into "International", as it's already being used as a place for both English-speakers to practice their Japanese, or Japanese-speakers to practice their English.
I think there should also be a /love and romance/ under lifestyle. I mean, it's a LIFESTYLE right? It should already be there!
>>17
I'll agree to this. It's a good idea.
>>16
But i'll have to disagree with this. Well, it's not a bad idea on it's own, but I like the 日本語 board as it is because it encourages japanese speakers to come here - I find the conversations there very interesting and helpful.
I saw an idea for a model board on /anime/ and i'm 100% behind this. Perhaps a "Figures & Models" board or something, so that we can talk about... "toys" in general.
I'd also like to see more academic boards.
I'd almost go for saying a Densha Otoko board wouldn't be deserted. After a while though, it would be.
I still think it'd be kind of awesome, though. There are already tons of Densha threads all over the place, and we could dedicate the board to episode guides, different peoples reviews, the manga, and projects like translating the original threads and gathering all the original AA from the threads, things like that. But I don't know if it's such a good idea to add specialty boards, even for such a popular subject...
Maybe an Otaku board under lifestyle, but in the rules encourage densha discussion? Or maybe Film & TV is good enough.
An otaku board would still be sort of neat, though.
What about something kind of like World4ch's fiction board? I personally wouldn't use it, but is there other interest here for it?
Where's the Literature board?
Second the toy/models board. Wouldn't it be better as an image board though?
There is already an imageboard for mechs at 4chan and maybe at iichan?
There should be a Figures & Models section though! We could discuss different techniques on building them, link to websites that show ones we want, link to pictures of models that we have completed or in the process of completing them. Also help newcomers to the model and firgure building hobby.
There could also be discussion on various other toys like gashapon, UFO catchers, American toys, other stuff that I can't think of.
Also, I am the one who created the 1/100th, 1/144 thread in anime.
Model building is a fun hobby. Let's share our happiness!
Wakachan's car board at one time permitted mechs posted but seeing as 4chan's mecha board is pretty popular that somehow got thrown out.
So you could always upload images there
http://zip.4channel.org/m/imgboard.html
or to some free image hosting service like http://imageshack.us/
and then link them in the threads.
I am all for a toys/models board but I doubt it would get much traffic.
I am against a Densha Otoko board. The threads we do have suffice, none of them have reached epic proportions yet and as the series is wrapping up now I am afraid a board dedicated to it would soon become a pretty stupid gimmick board. Let's face it: As awesome as the series is, all of this is just a fad, even though there's a movie & manga still to talk about.
A good rule of thumb in making demand for new boards reasonable might be to make threads which cover relevant topics popular first, to show that there is enough of a user base and a sufficient variety of actual topics to talk about.
I'm not too sure what I was thinking when I suggested the Densha Board. It wasn't really a serious suggestion in the first place, i just thought the idea was sort of neat.
I also am now against a fiction board.
And I might only use it occasionally, but I would still like to see a literature board if there is much demand for it.
The boards I'd be looking forward most are Models, and Love + Romance. I'd become a regular there and post often.
The longer I think about it, the better an idea a toy board becomes in my mind...
Maybe a toys&crafts board?
Or maybe "DIY" (Do It Yourself)?
Hobby board would be the best , there you could have hobbies models etc.
>>32
It's been brought up before and dismissed.
It's just not a good idea to delete/merge boards.
Right now there is a tonne of new boards I would like to bring in, as we are getting a bit desperate to spread the talk out, and introduce more people to the site. However someone with Perl experience needs to help me create a better setup and transition the existing boards/threads over to newer, more compact and faster code, I refuse to add any boards on the grounds that it will only cause more headaches in the future when the code is done. hotaru said he would help me, and said he started something, but I haven't seen anything. For me to complete the task by myself would make it take a very long time. The sooner I get help, the sooner it's done, the sooner new boards are added.
I take it that the ban script is also a factor in this? Hm. As soon as I get home, I'm jumping on it.
I'm all for a Hobby board, make it happen!
What about a bemani board? Bemanistyle.com used to have a nice one, but they're down at the moment (god knows if they'll ever set their full site back up much less their futaba board).
I think it would get some good usage, you could split it up into Popn, IIDX, or whatever, or just keep it together. It'd have to be an imageboard, because bemani discussions would just end up being "omg i just missed AAA on v[a] by (num jgs).
Thanks (b**)b
>>38
Why not settle in /v? It could use the traffic.
>>38
I love you. Seriously. You rock.
Because aside from discussion of the games, there is a fair amount of art that goes along with them, like GOLI and stuff.
>>42
/v/ is an imageboard and made to post game related art.
http://imageboards.4-ch.net/v/
What other chans are there ?
>>44
http://www.1chan.net/overchan/
Nevermind the overuse of the term "chan" for imageboards, though. "Imageboard" does just fine.
I'd really like to have a Math board. We have the "consumer" side of things covered with all the active Entertainment boards; now I think the 4-ch lineup needs more academic subjects. Starting with math, please, because there are so many interesting things to say about that.
By the way, the above is not sarcasm (though, on rereading, it sounds like it, heh).
I know this might sound kind of strange... but how about a sports board?
Not that I would actually use it... but maybe someone would... I dunno.
I think we should wait to see if anyone suggests it who will actually use it. The present 4-ch demographics may not include many sports players or enthusiasts. I'm not saying it definitely doesn't, but let's wait and see if any of them show up, eh?
In contrast, I (>>49-50) for one would use a math board, so here is already circumstantial evidence of the idea's worth.
Considering the activity in the iichan sports image board I don't think a discussion board would get much use.
hey i didn't think a food board would get any posts either, but it's pretty active. discussion seems to come more easily then pics. (also note how our news section is somewhat more active then iichan's)
If you really would use a math board, a good start would be to start posting about math-related subjects in the science or general boards.
Eh, it would seem kinda off in either place, I think.
The Science board should be fine: the whole point of the board was to fill in not only for science related topics, but also maths and any other academic topics.
In that case, I request an Academic board for general academic talk, so that the Science board can stay free for science. If you'll notice, the actual usage pattern for that board doesn't reflect your counterintuitive notion that it be an academic catch-all...
How about an offline meetings board like 2ch seems to have? I've seen a few posts claiming to be from my area (around Washington, DC). And a bunch of people are from Norway, so maybe they could get together sometime. It would be cool to meet fellow 4-chers.
