A while ago during that IRC meeting we all came to the conclusion that more moderators/helpers are needed within the site. Now, whilst I have discussed this with the current moderators this is now your turn to have your say. So far, 4 people have put their hand up:
Sakurina : Has tried to help out a few times with the workings of the site. Doesn't particulary stand out from the crowd but none the less wants to help out however he can.
iLove5X52g : Is the person responsible for the artwork on the frontpage. Like Sakurina, isn't a huge stand out amougst the crowd, but shows good intentions towards looking after the site and keeping the peace.
Shii : First up, very knowledgable about 4-ch/2ch/and all that kind of stuff. Yes he was "fired" from 4chan/world4ch and from SomethingAwful but those shouldn't be key features to note. Has stated he's more than willing to help out however he can.
BlackMage : Honestly, I would like to say something but there is little to say, given that he's never really shown up here at 4-ch. At the meeting however he was rather enthusiastic about taking on hosting us, I'll talk about that topic another thread.
Now, everyone is more than welcome to have their say about who should, or shouldn't. DO NOT post opinionated statement without some sort of reasoning. I don't want to see posts that contain nothing but "I prefer person x". I will be liberal in deleting offtopic or crap posts.
hey, I put my hand up as well!
earlier today, there was an issue on the site that needed immediate resolution, so I went to IRC to check in 4-ch. Practically speaking, I'd as soon endorse BlackMage as someone who could almost always be found and contacted.
I do not see foresee any problem with any of them, but more transparency of the moderating process is needed. Even something as little as a thread to report what someone might think is a problem (assuming they see the post before it is deleted or whatever the case may be) as long as the 'senior' team can somehow review the moderator's actions.
Screw that.
The hand of a good moderator should be light and invisible. Long discussions and arguments over moderator behaviour just lead to bullshit and drama. I don't think that the moderators should answer to anyone except themselves and Squeeks.
That being said, I suggest BlackMage and Shii.
I have practically no doubt over Blackmage. Except, HE DOESN'T UPDATE THE IICHAN SIDEBAR FAST ENOUGH. Also, although he can be reached on IRC, does he actually lurk/post here? (I know Shii does, but that's another story.)
But I thought he was just offering to host, not to moderate?
With hosting, I'm pretty sure Blackmage won't do a bad job.
Probably the one guy out of those four that I can give an opinion on.
(Time to play Devil's advocate)
Actually, I do have a bit more to say about Shii. It makes sense to ignore the SA thing, since, do we care if someone got banned from an irrelevant, non-anonymous, message board just because they didn't like pedophiles? I mean heck, Squeeks might be one himself, but it's quite irrelevant to this site as long as he doesn't somehoe promote it.
I think 4chan, however, does have some relevancy.
>First up, very knowledgable about 4-ch/2ch/and all that kind of stuff.
And was somehow fired from world4ch, a sort of 2ch clone that he helped set up and coded himself. That just shows he had a chance at being a moderator at a *ch like site, and failed at it.
world4ch aside, let's not forget that he also hosted a few boards, overchan, and a few other cool sites on his own website, "Sii Style." And what happened? "I'm tired of my site, and going to Japan for a while, so I'm closing all of these don't or handing them off." CH SRIKE II, C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER.
So now, after writing this, I'm against electing "BIG CHAN CELEBRITY" Shii.
>>7
Why was Shii fired from world4ch anyway?
>>8
Moot has clarified this for me, it's because I was sometimes sarcastic in my replies to 4chan banned e-mails, and because I attempted to make people follow the /f/ rules rather than ignoring the crap that gets posted there like all the other mods. Obviously I would not make these mistakes again.
> And what happened? "I'm tired of my site, and going to Japan for a while, so I'm closing all of these don't or handing them off."
I was trying to break my Internet addiction. I went to Japan and it nearly worked (best time of my life), but after 3 weeks I relapsed and here I am.
You'll note some things I haven't done:
>>5
That is exactly what I suggested in >>4, a way to report possible moderator misbehavior to Squeeks/waha/whatever. We don't need
9 Deleted by Squeeks (because it sucked), although a reason (without a name) would be fine I think.
On the subject of Shii, I think http://4-ch.net/req/kareha.pl/1104718613/ is applicable aswell. Do we want someone that disregards the leader of the site's wishes and just does whatever he wants?
iLove would be good, I think. They seem gentle, and have a solid grasp of the culture/atmosphere here.
Shii is a drama magnet but I doubt he'll wreck the place.
>oh... moot took off the link. i guess i will have to wait for him to leave
lol
>Do we want someone that disregards the leader of the site's wishes and just does whatever he wants?
I wouldn't. and like I said, I wouldn't want a "BIG CHAN CELEBRITY" either. Just some relatively unknown who has a good track record (yeah, those things sort of clash, I know) who can get the job done. I guess #iLove would be a good candidate.
>>10
Yeah, that would be nice. If mods gave a reason why things were deleted. Simple things like "Spam" "Off-topic."
Or, hmm... what if every message deleted was sent to some kind of "delete log" so that people could read them and where they were deleted from, but not actually post on it? Shouldn't be that hard to implement.
also from: http://4-ch.net/req/kareha.pl/1104718613/
>yeah, the mods actually deleted a thread I started myself. i made a thread in the anime forum about hazuki-tann and came back to find it gone. apparently they don't know the rich pedo tradition of 2channel
>as soon as I have admin control over the site I'll deop everyone but me and MVB
lol
>>14 Sitting and fretting over "who's watching the watchmen" is what generally causes negative feedback loops and drama.
When something gets deleted, it gets deleted. Spending time in analysis over whether it was justifiable or an act of 'moderator abuse' creates an unnecessary level of misplaced outrage.
The bottom line is that when we select moderators, we TRUST them. If we don't trust them, we don't select them. If there's a feeling that someone is abusing that trust, complain to squeeks.
And again, I vote for known people who can be contacted immediately when real problems occur.
>>11-12
Did you ask for moot's permission though? You seem to have disregarded those 'higher' up than you. It doesn't matter that you were linking here; it is the act of definace that concerns me.
>>17
Squeeks didn't ask for moot's permission either. Anyway it's kind of irrelevant. There isn't that much of a power structure on 4-ch; the concern is whether I will abuse the mod tools. I give you my word that I won't.
In light of Shii's remarks in this thread, I'm removing my support of him in >>4.
>>16
I suppose you're right. But still it it said something like "Deleted: Spam" or "Deleted: Off-Topic," it would be nice.
>And again, I vote for known people who can be contacted immediately when real problems occur.
So do I, but I don't want them that known. Like I said, iLove5X52g sound fine.
>Squeeks didn't ask for moot's permission either.
Err? 4-ch is/was his website. How many websites do you know that need permission to link to another site? None, really.
But world4ch wasn't quite yours, obviously. So of course you would have to ask the head admin about it.
You really didn't have to ask Squeeks just to link it... perhaps to link to the individual boards, yeah.
Sakurina ☑ฺ
iLove5X52g ☑ฺ
Shii ☑ฺ
BlackMage ☐ฺ
PS: This drama about Shii is pathetic.
Blackmage is a more likely drama starter. Flame me for THAT remark!
> But world4ch wasn't quite yours, obviously. So of course you would have to ask the head admin about it.
In that case I give up. orz
Sakurina ☑ฺ
iLove5X52g ☑ฺ
Shii ☑ฺ
BlackMage ☑ฺ
None of them will trash the site.
Anyone is fine, I think.
Just fire them if they "trash the site." :p
agreeing with the "I can find Blackmage if something needs attention" thoughts.

In my opinion, Sakurina or Blackmage would be a good choice. I haven't seen the others enough to really have an opinion of whether they would do a good job or not.
I also volunteer to help if needed.
As somebody who's worked with him, BlackMage has done good job as an iichan moderator. I see no problem with him. I don't know much about iLove5X52g except that the frontpage art is cute, and nothing much about Sakurina either, so I have no opinion on them. Shii is opinionated and fiesty, which I do approve of, even if it attracts drama.
>Shii is opinionated and fiesty
...
Sorry, I made a total newbei "ie"<->"ei" mistake there!
>>30
?
I'm starting to think that Shii would be a good choice too.
I've still never even heard of the other guy.
Sakurina is a cool guy, he has a Nintendo DS. He's very calm and somewhat smartalecky, I reckon a little like Mr VacBob.
I'm going to Italy for a few weeks, so send me a telegram if Squeeks makes his decision.
>>33 You knucklehead, don't you read the news? Western Union has cancelled their telegram service. Check your email at a little cafe occasionally.
and Squeeks, it's been a week, and the same people are posting. There aren't any new opinions. I say just ratify the executive board as it is, or I swear I'll stage a proxy fight and declare myself CEO.
Well okay, hows about the four candidates email me, and we can arrange things (because no I'm not giving out passwords on this board).
I'm for Shii, Sakurina and ILove. I don't know anything at all about Blackmage, but it doesn't seem like he'd hurt either.
hay squeeks, mail me the new passwords
no me! me!!
All of these people are ineligible, on the basis that they have revealed their identities.
Shii is my vo-te.
Am I re-elected yet?
Shii is my veto.
I wish to nominate myself. Who supports me?
I support you.
I cast vote for Anonymous Advisor.
I vote for >>44, even though it might've been me who posted that. I forget.
I still vote for myself, goddamn it.
It's a bit late, but I nominate Pierre for moderator. Although he has only been here for a brief period of time, he has already shown an exemplary understanding of the spirit of this message board and made valuable contributions to many topics on a variety of subjects. Such an excellent poster deserves the highest accolade our community can grant!
Alternately, the default anonymous name on all boards could be changed to 'Pierre' in his honor.
I vote MODD!5JrU4QOlH6
I'm already a moderator
