Search giant Google has been accused of being the "biggest threat to genetic privacy" for its alleged plan to create a searchable database of genetic information.

Biopiracy refers to the "monopolisation of genetic resources" according to the show's organisers. It is also defined as the unauthorised use of biological resources by organisations such as corporations, universities and governments.

What the hell are these people on about? Putting information online is "monopolizing" it, now?

Yeah. I read some of the articles and I don't get what their problem is. They seem to want to protect "biodiversity" and are against corporations making a profit out of biological resources.

Methinks they are ecologists (the "Save Nature, kill mankind!" kind) in disguise.

I'm curious as to how this is any different from NCBI/BLAST.
