A possible Waterworld? (30)

its happening and everyone knows it, global warming, the ice caps are melting and massive amounts of land are going to be lost, but is it possible for the entire world to be submerged in water? a possible water world? is there really THAT much water to do so? where WILL the water come from?

Thinking for about three seconds would have allowed you to figure out that the answer is "no", and thus we wouldn't have had to see this shitty thread.

In the future, please think for about three seconds.

Just my 2 cents, the world is in one of it's coldest times in history. Not record, but very cold. Dinos lived in average 30C, it's 14C now.

i ain't an expert on physics but as to my logical thinking, it is definitely possible, right after global warming.

So very, very wrong.

> physics

That's not even the right scientific discipline. Could you fail any harder?

Oh look, a libertarian think tank things disputes global warming! Who'da thunk?

They've got some nerve to talk about how science is "too politicized", when it's the libertarian more than anyone who mix up their politics with the science of global warming. What is the deal with libertarians and global warming, anyway? Why are they so dogmatically opposed to believing in science on this point?

we're heading for oblivion.

i heard that we're going to experience an 'ice age' too, which i think is a load of crap!

> which i think is a load of crap!

Your thoughts are irreverent; reality doesn't adapt itself to human cognitive reasoning

>>1 no, with all glaciers melted, the sea level would only rise 70 meters. a lot, but not enough to flood the world entirely.

>>3 we are also at the highest level of carbon dioxide content of all recorded ice core history apparently. and carbon dioxide generally follows the temperature, so its possible that it will get a lot hotter. of course its possible that its because of the sun itself, but we are definitely making an impact though.

12 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-04 09:27 ID:ar413Gmg

north pole ice body is mainly inside the sea already, so it would not contribute that much to the sea level. but south pole is a land that has a large amount of water on it in form of ice, if those were to melt, then yea , we will have our water world. something like tsunami everywhere, only really slower

13 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-04 21:28 ID:Heaven

No, there will be no Waterworld or Day After Tomorrow... or The Postman or Left Behind.

Let's not get Hollywood Entertainment confused with reality.

You are so wrong about that. CO2 levels were 12 times what they are now during the Ordovician Ice Age.

15 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-05 13:30 ID:Heaven

>>14

And were all other factors the same then?

16 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-06 10:48 ID:Heaven

>>15 What do you mean? CO2 is the only important factor. Al Gore said so.

17 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-07 16:42 ID:Heaven

>>16

Yes, and Al Gore is the supreme king of climate science, obviously. Whatever he says, every scientist treats as gospel truth.

>>17 Realclimate.org agrees with Al Gore, so it must be true.

> Al Gore

political bogeyman; get someone else to criticize and stop trying to have a double standard for republicans.

20 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-07 21:07 ID:Heaven

What do you mean, double standard? I think all politicians are assholes until proven otherwise.

21 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-07 21:14 ID:Heaven

> all politicians are assholes until proven otherwise.

The only exceptions are independents.
A good person is a bad politician, and vice-versa.

22 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-08 03:14 ID:Heaven

To Clarify:
A successful politician must sacrifice their principles to get to the top.

23 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-09 12:33 ID:Heaven

Look, the only one who keeps bringing Al Gore into this is you. Why the hell do you have such a hard-on for him?

24 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-09 12:50 ID:Heaven

Because it's funny.

25 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-09 19:07 ID:Heaven

You know what's also funny? George Bush doesn't believe in global warming! Maybe I'll bring that up every time you try to say that it's not true!

26 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-10 01:06 ID:Heaven

Well then he and I actually agree on something.

27 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-10 12:04 ID:Heaven

Hahahah, you are an total idiot just like George Bush!

28 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-10 13:04 ID:Heaven

> an total idiot

That's funny.

29 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-11 01:54 ID:Heaven

>>28
No, it's just sad.

30 Name: Anonymous Scientist : 2007-10-15 08:09 ID:NyceLUQV

global warming is happening...despite what the politicians think they aint qualified (although they are in a position...unfortunately) to decide if its goin on or not, its the scientists that do, if organizations like CSIRO and big names in the scientific community like stephen hawking and david attemborugh say theres global warming, i think it would be stupid to argue otherwise.

and no i dont think it would reach the extent of the movie waterworld...of course a significant fraction of the world would be submerged under water IF the polar ice caps completely melted...but it would be a very gradual and slow proccess, and even now some countries are really cutting back on the CO2 emmissions so from the way its looking at now i dont think it would ever reach the point of a flood.
