I was running disk cleanup wizard on my windows xp when this message popped up.
"Windows File Protection
Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability, Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Insert your product CD-ROM now."
I dont have a windows xp cd-rom because it was pre-installed on my computer. I tried putting in all 3 of my system restore discs things but none of them work. I pressed cancel so did i just kill my computer? SHould I use system restore?
See if you have an i386 folder in your hard drive. If you do, all your windows CD files should be in there and you can set it to use that folder when asked for a CD.
>>1 here.
The only options I get are retry, cancel and more information. I don't get a chance to choose a directory
Not even when you retry?
Not even when I retry...
That's odd. When you don't have a CD in, it should give you a popup asking for where the CD is. What does more information say? Can you still use your computer when you cancel?
Well, my computer seems to be fine. It's been 1 day since I hit cancel. Weird..yeah?
Depends what was wrong with the files. Maybe they were just upgraded.
Not for a long time..I guess I better do that now.
