Hi everyone,
So, I just got this new gfx card, a BFG Geforce 7800gs oc 256MB (AGP). My only real complaint is... the noise. There seem to be just two fan speeds, idle and load and both seem louder than they have to be. I checked the performance monitor and found that on idle the gpu graph was reading at around 50% load. Is that right? The temperature hangs around 50°c. I figure the temperature seems right, but is it normal for a gpu to be at 50% when all I'm running is firefox?
Also, it's currently running underpowered, from a 300w power supply. A new psu should be in shortly to give it adequate power for the more demanding stuff, could that affect the fan speed at all? I should think it would be slower though, and not faster.
Ah, well, I have discovered RivaTuner. I think it may have solved my problem, so long as my system keeps using RivaTuner's fan settings and not Nvidia's.
I understand 50-53 is actually pretty normal for the idle temp of a gpu, and that they can go up to 80 pretty comfortably.
