when ever i try to update anything i get this error;

"E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."

if anyone can help me that would be cool.

What level of Linux knowledge do you currently have? And while you're at it, could you tell us the version of Linux you have?

dpkg implies some mutation of Debian.

have you tried running 'dpkg --configure -a' like the error message suggests?
