Hey, I want to make my own imageboard. How would I go about doing this? I've looked around, but can't find a place that hosts them.

you can't find a hosting company that supports CGI? wow. you are an idiot. please get off my internet.

It's easy. First choose an engine. For an instance: wakaba (Perl/CGI) or Kusaba (PHP/MySQL). Then choose a host that provides these services (depending on type of engine) and doesn't have a limit per file (or it's >500KB).
When you find one, please, post it here. I search for Perl/CGI with large enough limit for my personal files.
But there is one more question. Do you REALLY need your own imageboard? If it's for some special purpose - it's O'K. If you want to be like famous imageboard owner's name here, then forget about it: there are too much of these small pounds with a few user, that hope to become popular. You'd better stick to one of existing ones. Become an elitist with secure trip or something like that.ww
And one more option: anonib

it is only worth bothering if you do something unique and interesting with your imageboard that isnt currently being done. don't bother starting a 4chan clone, there is already 4chan for that, your site will die on its arse.
i started a successful imageboard that is still successful today (although it changed hands a good few years ago) but it only became successful because a) it was entirely dedicated to something that 4chan does not offer and b) it came about when 4chan and the english-language imageboard phenomenon was still in its infancy so competition wasn't quite so established. i gave it a tiny bit of promotion on 4chan and a forum dedicated to its subject and it just built from there.
As others have pointed out, the world doesn't really need more imageboards. Just take a look at 2ch.us, and you'll be greeted by tons of "specialty" imageboards, many of which have very few users.
>>7 which imageboard is this?
>>8 fchan. furry stuffs if youre not familiar with it. which i guess you won't be if you're not into that kind of thing.
i take absolutely no responsibility for its current state though (except the colour scheme, i'll defend that blue to the grave) - i only ran it for maybe the first year of its life, if that, and the people who took over from the guy who took over from me have pretty much done the opposite of everything i would have done with the place. Kinda regret giving it up sometimes. but not often.
A bit of offtopic. Just a thought after >>9さん post.
It seems that people end up on slow and nice textboards after posting on, moderating or owning an imageboard.
