Noob article question here..
I'm looking for a light and possibly free software for editing articles with the end product being a .pdf. I'm interested in making my own zine. I don't know how this can accomplished with Open Office or something similar. My main problem is making the text stop evenly on the left and right side, so that the text is a clean line vertically.

You can use the OpenOffice.org word processor for all of that stuff.

  1. Change document to correct size
  2. Use tables to set text alongside images and such, break up articles, etc.
  3. You know how you can set right align, left align, and center align? The last one where the lines are all equal lengths is a setting called "justified" where the text stops evenly on the left and right side.
  4. OO.o allows you to export as .pdf

You'd probably do best to call kinkos or whatever printer you're thinking about using and asking them what formats they accept.
