I'm persian and I am not a three headed monster :/
I love this director's style, its a nice variety and much more improved compared to his last.

I am half persian but I'm a Dragonfly based Masked Cyborg lol

The 300 movie looks very good, when I heard of it on myspace I thought about an older movie called The 300 Spartans, based on the same events. Btw, Those are the guys responsible for 300 pictures on myspace if you didn't know.

My favourite line so far was when the Persian Ambassador came to Sparta to demand surrender....

Ambassador --> This is madness!
King Leonidas--> Madness?!

             THIS IS SPARTA!!

Then the king kicks the ambassador down into the hole. A real kick-ass movie, this.

Who is going to the movies to watch this? This movie would just be another Alexander or Troy with all the eye candy but no engaging story. I'm afraid this movie would not be your hard-earned money's worth.

7 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-02-19 04:57 ID:naPUXb5l

"Then we will fight in the shade." Trailer looks completely awesome. Not bad for Zack Snyder, never expected much, but he could turn out to be a good director.

I just saw it and it was worth the money. Story-wise, it feels like an epic poem. so if you are looking for a sappy romance or something, you won't find it here. but if you're looking for a narrative about heroes and great deeds, this is the movie. it is NOTHING like troy. this is what troy should have been. troy - pansy = 300

9 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-03-10 10:47 ID:DhHyFru6

errr troy - pansy + win = 300 rather

It looks stupid and lame. Not to mention ridiculous. I hope Hollywood loses money and learns to make good films.

11 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-03-12 00:12 ID:3GnZ6JRE

I heard they threw in a sex scene for no particular reason.
How disappointing.

that's loser talk.

What are you, fucking retarded? Stupid, lame and ridiculous aren't descriptive enough words to convey anything.

They're perfect for describing what is stupid, lame, and ridiculous.

This was probably the best movie I've seen in theaters since LOTR and The Matrix (the old school one). Definitley worth every penny and minute spent for it, its freakin awesome. So its got some sex scenes, blah blah. THe Persian freak show army is kinda exageratted, but thats the whole point. My favorite quote from the Queen:

"Only Spartan women give birth to REAL men."

17 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-03-13 15:35 ID:TX3mQmc3

Sounds strange.

18 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-03-13 22:26 ID:dM/DWOy3

Hmm, looks like a must-see... I've heard only good reviews so far.. Some people said it was a little cheezy over-the-top at times when they played a few guitar style riffs as the guys prepared to walk into battle in slo-mo, but I'm certainly fine with a little of that, especially considering it's done somewhat in the same style as the recent "Sin City", which I loved the art/comic style of.

19 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-03-14 05:00 ID:XQcBgBzo

I wouldn't say that it was similar in style as sin city. I think they are very different. Still the direction was very nice.

Blood, orcs, ninjas, boobies, and a persian king basically demanding buttsecks = win in my book.

Watched it from a DVD-screener rip yesterday. The movie is pretty good for an american film. Pleasantly few cliches. Wouldn't watch it again without fast forward; in retrospect the only scenes worth seeing once more are the slow-motion fight scenes.

blatantly racist. breath-taking visuals, no story, no character development

Why do they have to be against mysticism?

Why do they have to be anti-Asian? (They say so in the movie)

>>21 Cause they wanna bomb Iran. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay?

23 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-03-29 09:58 ID:taakoY2L

This is not a spartan movie. It's american.

300 preaches against mysticism because it is one of the key enemies of logic, which is the foundation of freedom. Reverse-think if you have trouble getting it. Despite the movie, freedom can only be truly achieved, to the extent that we can enjoy it in reality, if one achieves free thought. Free thought can be achieved only if one's mind is founded in reason - aka logic. Mysticism, on the other hand, defies logic and demands that one pay homage to what cannot be explained, or understood, or believed. Throughout history, mysticism has been of the key weapons of tyrants of all color. Read Ayn Rand - she explains this far better than I ever can.

Lots of abs.

I don't think mysticism is antithetical to freedom.

Mystics are like cats, no one can make them do anything they don't want to. If you look at the Gnostic sects of Christianity, there were lots of schools of thought about just about every issue under the sun. But they never tried to enforce on singular view of Christianity on everybody else. It was a sort of "live and let live" philosophy, each group had its own teachings and if you didn't agree, you could join a different group or start your own.

The opposite was true of orthodox Christianity. In orthodox Christianity, not believing in the Trinity made you a heretic, and being a heretic in medieval Europe was dangerous. They were hunted down, tortured and killed.

In fact mysticism encourages a few habits that are just as foundational to freedom as logic is. First, it encourages you to see for yourself. Where an established religion will say "Thus says the LORD and you must believe it", Mystical traditions encourage a person to seek God for himself. Second it allows for diversity of opinion. Mystics don't have holy wars because they don't believe in a single path. Zen Buddhists don't call Tibetan Buddhists "heretics", they say it's a different path.

I think the biggest enemy of freedom is established orthodoxy that is never questioned. Once you establish that "Real Americans" believe in X Y and Z, then anyone who dares question these ideas is unAmerican, a political heretic. Once that happens you can no longer debate an issue and come to a conclusion -- even showing up is heresy. That's why religion is such a powerful tool of despots -- it's easy to claim god is on my side, and who wants to be against god? Look at the despots out there now, Amedinejad claims Allah is on his side, Kim Il Jung is pretty much a god to his people, etc. They wrap themselves in religion, but in the kind that makes disagreement a heresy.

Logic is important, but it only works if you're already free and not brainwashed into accepting the wrong premise. Logic won't save you if it includes the premise "hitler was sent to save germany". With that premise, the only logical choices are doing what the nazis say. You'll pay your taxes and be a good little German.

Uhh... the french did?

Which is kind of amusing, since the French invented modern democracy too.

All the people I've talked to who actually hate this movie are the kind of people who seem to hate enjoyment, because they'd rather be showing off just how intelligent and sophisticated they are.

It was the stupidest thing I've seen in a long time, yeah. It was also the most fucking awesome. It had style, too, and it was just well made. The number of high profile films you can say that about seems to be constantly decreasing.

fucking signed. Tons of people are all like "oh it's so anti-gay blah blah blah pro war blah blah blah look at how i'm intelligent blah blah blah"

but they're missing the point. you don't judge Borat like you do shakespear, you shouldn't judge an action movie like it's a documentary on american culture. It's a movie about guys killing other guys - get over yourselves already and stop being a fucking hippie

I had such high hopes for this movie :/ But I found it a bit dissapointing. I'm not saying it was bad or anything, but just... blah. Enjoyable, but nothing special.

I would love this movie if I were american/whoever the movie stands for

But, for most of the world: we like the the visuals, dont ask us about anything else. we hate it.

I was a fan of the original 1962 film The 300 Spartans. So naturally I figured this would be a good movie. I was wrong... IT WAS A FRIGGIN SPECTACULAR AWESOME MOVIE! The only part I didn't like about this movie was probably turning Xerces into an adrogynus wuss.

39 Name: Couch Potato : 2007-04-26 01:05 ID:KC1hEhBM

>>38 well the movie was based on the 300 comic (Visual novel if you're that anally retentive) and not a remake of the 300 Spartans so I have no problems with it.
