Jedi vs. Wizard (51)

1 Name: OP : 2009-07-30 01:09 ID:9rappp3m

So, my friend and I had a argument over who would win...
the Greatest Wizard (Dumbledore) vs the Greatest Jedi (Yoda/The Emperor) or even just something like, Mad Eye Moody vs. Anakin...

who do you think would win and why?

personally, I think a Wizard would win hands down

2 Name: Couch Potato : 2009-07-31 13:38 ID:eVeq303E

A jedi would win in close combat but a wizard could just blast him away before it gets to that.

3 Name: nonja : 2009-08-01 04:03 ID:i4UUFFVT

But what if the jedi used force speed? the wizard would have no time to react. Also jedi have the force to help them predict the wizards moves before the wizard even knows what he is going to do

4 Name: Couch Potato : 2009-08-01 15:20 ID:NIuenS06

The Jedi would win because Wizards aren't real.

5 Name: OP : 2009-08-02 00:52 ID:9rappp3m

close combat wouldnt even happen. Expeliarmus and the Lightsaber is gone.
also, if it does get into a close combat situation the wizard could just apperate further away, or simply fly. The Death Eaters and the Order of the Pheonix members could all fly if you remember in the 4th movie, so they could fly out of reach and still blast spells.

force choke - stupify
force lightning - protego
force speed - apperate
force push - protego

name a force power, and i could think up a spell that would counter it. From what i have seen, read and heard, the force has limits. Magic has none.

f-22 raptor.

that's the real reason the government stop producing them- because these beasts can singlehandely wipe out both jedis and wizards

Magic has limits in the sense where it exerts the Wizard. I suppose it's the same for Jedis, though. Force is only as strong as the user's potential, but then again people in the HP world seem to have inequal magic potentials too.

Protego would fail against force lightning & push, because they are not spells.

Expelliarmus is a bolt and must hit. Force pull your wand and that's it. It's also true for a lot of spells that require to hit. Jedis have ultra high agility.... and wizards don't have it. The dodging they do is the same you would to dodge a basketball or so.

Jedis can "feel" auras, while obviously Wizards seem to fail at this all along the HP books.

And Jedis have the one power that Wizards have not: The "Cool Factor" is on their side. And they have light-fuckin-sabers.

Wizards would be strong opponents I guess, but Jedis are just one notch above. And I feel like I've wasted 5 minutes.

Why are you guys talking about magic as if it were real?

Wizard hands down even a Jedi gets stabed witha lightsaber and can't get to a doctor he will die. Wizards on the other hand can just cast a spell and live. If a Jedi came twards a wizard they can kill them with a spell they can't dodge that. So my conclusion Jedi are good, cool, and whatnot but you dont mess with a wizard.

Harry Potter wizards are pansies.

>a Jedi gets stabed witha lightsaber and can't get to a doctor he will die.

With a lightstaber maybe. Still, Force Heal, and some tricky reincarnation techniques.

>Wizards on the other hand can just cast a spell and live.

Cut in half by a lightsaber, I think not. Just as Jedis.

>If a Jedi came twards a wizard they can kill them with a spell they can't dodge that.

They'll dodge most of the bolts you'd throw at them, as been mentioned before. If a wizard comes towards a Jedi he can Force Grapple him to death.

These aren't real arguments, there's kinda the same gunnery on both sides of the fence.

It depends on the nature of magic really if it is caused by manipulating physical realities then jedi could easily sense slight changes in the enviorment and be able to dodge any direct attack towards them. Magicians on the other hand would have a hard time figuring out what the jedi would do next thus the jedi has the advantage. Of course if magic creates its own realities independent from everything else the jedi would definitly be at a disadvantage in a battle with a higher level wizard since he wouldn't be able to sense the attacks directed towards him. It all comes down to being one step ahead of your opponent

You are ignorant if you think a wizard stands a chance against a jedi master. The foolishness of your stupidity amazes me. Jedi's incredible dexterity will render spells useless, as will force block and other protective force moves. The jedi's powerful combat moves and quick dodges will leave the wizard looking shockingly lame and useless. I would be suprised if a wizard would last ten seconds versus a jedi, and if he did it would be because the jedi let him.

17 Name: Couch Potato : 2009-10-13 21:27 ID:5Inli62k

And if the wizard used a spell to tranform into a jedi?

18 Name: Couch Potato : 2009-10-21 04:24 ID:5lO35rR/

a jedi isn't just about the powers- it's about knowing how to use them. Getting a lightsaber doesn't mean you'll know how to use it.

Why do we limit ourselves to wizards from Harry Potter? There was Gandalf somewhere but was mentioned once or twice. What about Dave Duncan's "A man of his word" books? A wizard (I don't remember/know if this name was used as I didn't read english version) there could do anything and was as good as man can be in any field (which also includes physical abilities - strength, reflex and stuff).

So my word is that "A man of his word"'s wizards would kick both "Harry Potter"'s wizards and jedis. But it makes it too easy so it is better to forget about it and go back to Harry Potter vs Star Wars argument :P

Wait, you mean Jedis and wizards aren't the same thing? Asking who would win in a fight between a wizard and a jedi is, to me, like asking who would get saved first. A catholic or a baptist?

Sadly I recall from a D&D player's handbook that I read MANY years ago that wizards have this spell "Wish" or something... where they can wish for anything to happen. Let's just wish the force out of existence, or wish that the Jedi turned into a tree.

wouldn't the jedi get a will save or something? I think a jedi should have some pretty strong will saves seeing as they can do the whole mind suggestion 'these aren't the droids you're looking for' thing.

27 Name: Dude : 2009-11-21 15:50 ID:ZwV37PZW

I think you're underestimating the wizard's agility. In HP books, the experienced wizards duels are crazy fast, and their wands can barely be seen, such is the speed at which they cast spells. Also, they wouldn't have to DODGE a lightsaber, just appearate away from it.

Spells don't have to be only aimed attack or defense spells, a wizard could change the terrain [try to avoid quicksand, boosted jedi (ok, ok, Force Jump, but you get my point)], make a wall around him, summon the beast of apocalypse, or whatever they could imagine, if you take "Wish" into consideration.

Personally, I think it would be a tough fight, any of them could win, but wizards would have the upper hand.

28 Name: Couch Potato : 2009-11-23 13:19 ID:qT9tBpNr

Ok, so if we say that wizard is better than jedi, how many jedis would be needed to defeat a wizard?

29 Name: Couch Potato : 2009-11-28 23:09 ID:5lO35rR/

you must keep in mind- EVEN if the wizard is able to kill the jedi- the jedi becomes more powerful than they can ever imagine.

30 Name: Couch Potato : 2009-12-05 00:16 ID:9rappp3m

5 Jedi vs 1 Wizard. It's been said many times that a swordsman can never defeat a Wizard in a 1v1 battle.

If anybody remembers the battle that Voldemort had with Dumbledore at the end of the 5th book (Order of the Phoenix) Voldemort made a fire dragon. Im not sure about the limitations of a jedi but im pretty sure they cannot do anything against a fire dragon. If you force push it, its fire, it wont do anything, you cannot choke it, its fire. Wizards have infinate amount of abilites. Wizards win

33 Name: Bloodrocuted : 2010-04-06 17:06 ID:0A1LujGp

The Force surrounds penetrated and binds everything. This includes fire. The Force can't be said to be only have Force jump, push, lightning, and speed. And if you want to talk about being close combat and having a wizard cast a spell and the jedi wont have time to react. Im the 3rd star wars when Mace was attacking the Emperor, the Emperor used lightning when Mace was only inches from him, and Mace blocked it with his lightsabre. The power of the Force is limitless, as is Magic for a wizard. Yet when a Wizard casts spells a Jedi can deflect it or abosrobe it like Yoda did in several of the movies. A jedi can also use the Force to throw shit at the Wizard and then come in for the killing blow. Ive watched the movies from both and read many of the books from both. One thing ive noticed is a wizard is not that deadly without a wand, but a Jedi is still very leathal without a lightsabre. I think a jedi is more viable and without a doubt would kick a wizards ass

34 Name: bobby B : 2010-09-09 23:00 ID://MNQPi2

A jedi knight would kick a wizards ass. Emmet is a fool for thinking a wizard would beat a jedi. A Jedi would cut a wizards ass up.

The Wish spell takes quite long to cast but assuming the Wizard can prepare for the battle, he could craft a ring of wishing.

Ummm can I just say Jedi are all over the universe, and if they did have to fight wizards to prove who were better, just blow up planet Earth? Bye bye wizards

I think I am wasting my time here by saying this, but do you wizard fans really think that you can win? My definition of a Jedi: A Jedi is everything a wizard is PLUS a Freakin Lightsaber!
A jedi has the force, which does not have limits! Jedi's are physically fit, and they could beat anyone! Range does not matter at all. They have been trained for many years with their Lightsabers and force skills. They know how to use them at the same time and even under stress conditions! What can a wizard do? He can swing a stick and make it sparkle, WOW! The wisdom of a jedi is undescribeable. They are trained to face death at any time, and accept your fate. I never heard of a wizard who lives by that. Harry Potter for example freaking ran away in the fourth movie to save his life. A jedi would have never done that! Another reason why a jedi would win; They don't have to freaking cast a spell before their attack. A jedi could just choke a wizard, so that way he is useless, because wizards are nothing without their wands. They are not physically fit like the Jedis and they don't know how to fight unless they have their little stick. Btw, Protego does not repel Force Lightning, because force lightning is not a spell. Lightsaber throw is pretty much an instant kill. I don't even know why I am talking here because I am wasting my time. It's not even questionable. Jedi's would kick wizards asses everytime, anytime! May the force be with you!

All jedis can really do is run around and hit stuff with their light sabers. They can use the force sometimes to lift stuff, push stuff, bring stuff to them and choke people. They cannot summon creatures. They can't open portals. They're not knowledgeable in magic and the elements.

A wizard would win hands down.

A jedi could win if the wizard was just really really old and arthritis got to him.

I think a Jedi would win. The reasons I'm thinking of have all been said already, and pretty much summed up by >>37 (Qui-Gon Jinn). But I just wanted to say, >>41 you're wrong in the fact that "jedi live at naboo." They really live all over the Galaxy in the Star Wars setting. But I think we get what you're saying about Jedi and Wizards live in different Galaxies, though we are arguing off the hypothetical event where a Jedi and a Wizard are in the same place at the same time.

The force is more powerful than magic without a doubt but that is not to say that a jedi is more powerful than a wizard, all depends on who the jedi/wizard is. Besides, any one of them would lose to the ultimate JediWizard........Jesus Christ with the reserection jedispell.....jesus doesnt just saves...he pwns

I like jedi better, but a Wizard would win since all he has to do is utter one or two words before instantly killing the Jedi.

A friend actually arguing with a friend about this a few weeks ago. It was originally over email via phone but then he got so frustrated he actually bothered to call me and say "Dude, think about what you're saying."

A Jedi would win. You all seem to forget that Jedi's can move things with their mind. Meaning without the use of anything other than himself. Therefore a Jedi would disarm a Wizard, before the Wizard even uttered a single letter. That is a FACT.
