KeyHoleTV is very stable and have most of the major channels, but the quality isn't optimal.

I was wondering if any of you know of any paid services that offer higher bit-rate streams?

Not any specific show, I just enjoy watching Japanese TV (yeah it’s 99% shit I know, but that’s what’s fun about it right?) And I wouldn’t mind paying for it, if I can get better service.

The Japanese Culture & Eontertainment board on the d-addicts.com forum has a few threads with information about both free and pay services, but I'll give you the highlights of the free ones:

freshverse.com

Used to have a high-quality Flash stream and require an invitation; as of right now, registration is open and all of the available streams require Microsoft Silverlight. The channels available are NHK G, NHK E, Nippon TV, TBS, and Fuji TV. Quality is not good, but it is better than KeyHoleTV.

tvants.com

Requires download of a Windows p2p application, but it also works in wine. The channels are usually misnamed: the one labeled TV Asahi right now is actually TV Tokyo, the one labeled TV Tokyo is actually Nippon TV, and the one labeled NTV is actually Fuji TV. Those are the only ones available right now, although there have been others in the past. The quality for Nippon TV and Fuji TV is slightly below that of freshverse.

jptv24.com

This is actually a pay service, but they provide one channel for free: NHK Educational. It comes in two resolutions, but even the low-res one is better quality than freshverse. It downloads a Java program to your computer and works on Windows, Mac and Linux.

TVants is a lost cause now, it seems.

There is an alternative server which works for getting a channel list but no channels will actually open. It's not just my network location either - I have added a ton of proxy servers, and it's connecting to the proxy servers fine but still not actually showing the stream.

Welcome to the future, where things which used to work fine no longer work at all.

Yep. I was pretty happy about finding this thread, until I realized that everything except for KeyholeTV isn't working. Oh, and freshverse.

I missed out on an eight hour stream of Game Center CX on freshverse...
