Pretty dumb.
[Devil's advocate]
Well drawn and animated.
Oh, without doubt. It's also ALMOST dumb in a good way, but doesn't quite make it.
The writers have always been weak, IMO.
What was the name of that soap opera with the dumb girl who gets into an accident and fucks up the life of the others? Weak.
I watched it only for the Dai segments, that blonde waitress. And the previews.
MuvLuv the game OTOH was hilarious at the beginning - until the food contest. Then I lost interest. It felt like the good writer left and another, low talent guy took his place.
Akane Maniax seems to try to recapture the over-the-topness of MuvLuv part 1 and failing to some degree (well so far, for this episode 1). The hero looks like the complete opposite of the guy from the soap opera anime. Problem is, the negative of a weak hero still comes out weak.
But the art is great and Akane is lovely, so...
I remember watching Kimi ga Nouzumo Eien. I kept hoping the it would stop sucking and that the girl would be rebuilt as a cyborg or something. That would be cool. On that note, this is as close as those prayers will come to being answered. But, I doubt I'll ever want to watch the show again.
"Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Ayu Mayu Theater 1-6" is worth the download (for broadband users, at least) due to Haruka abuse.
Also, apparently that Haruka/Alien 9 crossover is officially sanctioned.
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is one of my favourite anime-series. Akane Maniax was boring. The story was boring, and I hate the main character.
True, the story was boring. But that's only part 1.(I think...) Hopefully, it'll get better.
I don't think you can like Akane Maniax unless you're a Mazinger Z fan; the entire thing is a parody of it. I liked it, and I'm hoping Gouda gets a real giant robot instead of just a dream of it.
link plz
I'm hoping those of you bashing AkaMania at least got to play the game at some point. Besides, I thought Gouda's character was a hylarious change in main characters for these kind of games/series. Granted he's not the brightest bulb out there, but at least it's original. >.>
PS: Japanese DVD 6 (I think) of KimiNozo had a sequence from Akane Maniax that was a bit of a parody from Char's Counterattack...they even had "Beyond the time" playing in the background... o-o;;
It was done by KickAssAnime, but got booted off AnimeSuki in the Media Factory debacle and now I can't find their Bittorrent listings. :(
did you try Google?
http://kaa.animeconnection.net/torrentpage/
In any case, they are a DVD rip group and I don't know where there fansub projects are at
I've only played the Akane Maniax game so I'm curious. Which ending did the anime use? The Akane end or the "true" end? Or something different altogether?

Dear Someone:
Please fansub the second episode.
thx
Episode 2 actually got me interested in this OVA again.
I thought Akane Maniax has been pretty good so far, since Akane was the only character I actually liked from Kimi Ga Nozomu. Everyone else had only themselves to blame for how miserable they were.
I find AM to be a good mix of comedy and drama. I don't think you need to have seen Mazinger Z to "get" the humor, seeing Nadesico would probably do it. Or just having some sense of what the giant robot genre is like. The humor's not for everyone, but neither is most of the humor in anime.
I need ep 3 :(

No kidding. There were tons of groups that subbed 1&2, nobody's done 3 yet.
I dunno; I agree with you that the main camp of people who hated it just didn't know what the whole Kouji Kabuto joke was to begin with and were thinking "why isn't this the protagonist i'm used to?". Thing is, as a big robot anime fan (and somebody who watched KGNE), I thought AM was kind of lame. The problem with the Kouji Kabuto joke is that they don't really go anywhere with it. They just kind of drop a Go Nagai hero into a standard formula and have him behave as his formula dictates. Too predictable to really make me laugh.

you deserve a slow and painful death for bashing the greatness that is Tomokazu Seki
PSST! A certain group of individuals has a secret sort-of-alpha version of episode 3 (only the first ~75% subbed):
