Mamoru Oshii crafted a fucking masterpiece with his "Patlabor 2: The Movie" (1993). A deep film, loaded with remarkable, detailed imagery created during the peak of cel animation (the scene where the Hellhound attack chopper is reflected in the mirrored windows of a skyscraper is just beautiful). Some terrific trademark Oshii montages set to Kenji Kawai's score create a singular atmosphere (I just love the montage in which tanks are deployed in a Tokyo snow scape).
I miss the era of high production value movies like P2: Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Honneamise, Jin Roh, Galaxy Express 999 (Leiji Matsumoto era - Arcadia of My Youth also amazing),...the list goes on. We're not likely to see the likes of such theatrical anime again.
I've watched the first two and I like it so far. Definitely going to watch the rest.

Okay. I just saw "First adjournment", the recap episode. In it I see Fam and Giselle dressed in Ades uniform and talking to a captain of another ship and Millia in maids clothing. It was a part of some part of some ruse apparently, but I have seen all the prior episodes to this and I have not seen any of this happening. What the fuck am I missing here? Was it a episode that was cut out or something? I am so confused.

That first ep made no sense. A girl who for years wants to build a big robot? Yeah, right. And the school agrees?
Let's see, this is based upon a scifi game/novel. "Its gameplay requires little player interaction as much of the game's duration is spent on reading the text that appears on the screen" -- doesn't seem very attractive so far.
On the plus side, the art is good, and maybe that weird alien/alternate/future/else girl who appeared near the end will liven things up a bit.
Psycho-Pass - 01

Ah, that was confusing. I was not sure when the gun was on "stun" or on "kill". And can't the user switch manually? And why was the girl not gun-trained beforehand? Is she not supposed to do her job effectively? Depressing.

I go on about this every time, but the fonts have gotten slightly better. I still wish the author would use a bitmap or a designedly small font. Even in a JPEG file, it would do wonders. The hinting is a little messy here.

Anime, Video Games, Sports, Cars, Liquor, Idol/Actor Worship, Sex, etc. And to some degree, we all needlessly belittle each other because we don't conform to the "norm" of society perpetuated by the media which in itelf is pretty shallow and stupid. Just do what you want to do and damned if the people around you don't like it. As long as you'e enjoying it, noone else matters. It's not like you actually care about the nameless masses anyway.
And remember the no matter how different Japanese culture is from American culture, the Japanese are still people. They have the same day to day struggles we do. It's true for everyone in the world. Don't assume things about people withut getting to know them. Just wait a while, learn your Japanese, save up sme money, then go visit Japan.

I think the worst character right now is Nia from Gurren Lagann. Every thing about her form her character design to her personality, is just one big SUE shitfest!
First of all, she's completely ugly with her two toned sheep hair and retarded looking flower eyes.
Then there's her contrived intro into the story. Simon is at his worst ever because of Kamina's death and surprise! There's a cute blond loli princesses waiting for you in a box. Wow! what a 'convent' plot device. Oh and the twist is that the perfect sue princess immediately attaches herself to Simon and they fall madly in love with each other. Soooo original.
Now we get to the beast part which is her shit personality. I just love it how Nia never seems to do anything wrong and always accidentally does everything right. The beach episode was a perfect example of this. As in the wiki definition of Sue; "The author may seem to push how exceptional and wonderful the "Mary Sue" character is on his or her audience, sometimes leading the audience to dislike or even resent the character fairly quickly." I think this explains Nia to a tea.
I also love the fact that all the nisfag 4chan bitches seem to conveniently forget what a huge bitch she was in the first two episodes. Yoko and Simon are still feeling like shit because of Kamina's death, then Nia comes along and starts adding in her two scene about how "they shouldn't be putting all their attention on someone that isn't here anymore".
