Xenosaga The Animation 1 RAW:
Basically, a straight adaptation of the game. I didn't get back the "wow" factor from the original game. Maybe because the characters feel stiff. And that the accompanying music is out of place and not very exciting.
Mahou_Sensei_Negima_01 raw
Looks low budget, with almost no shading, empty streets, two-speed animation (low qual generally, higher quality sometimes), perspective errors (the classroom), sequence errors (supposedly Negi can't reach the blackboard but the background shows he actually can). Despite all that, the magic works and the story is entertaining.
Lime_Iro_Senkitan_X_01 raw :
It's the original Lime Iro Senkitan, but rewritten for kids and with new, more, cute-ified characters. Now with a Guyver too - "Otoko Attack!" ^^;
Starship Operators 1 RAW
Sci-fi, in space. Looks interesting, I want to see this one subbed.
And the WORST OPENING EVER. What the hell were they thinking with that?
Thanks for another reminder that I can just jerk off to Galactic Heroes ALL this season and not bother with anything new or exciting.

Yeah, there is (mild) fanservice. Each girl is introduced fantasizing about the hero. Each girl represents a different type of fetish. And they are 6 girls. And also 3 villain girls. And a villain boss girl. The old doctor girl is still there. The old loli-flying-engine-girl is still there, and she has her 3 servants + a new incompetent assistant girl who is a bit older.
Maybe I should count only the men, it's faster: The bearded captain. A First Officer of sorts. The hero.
> Each girl represents a different type of fetish. And they are 6 girls.
Just what fettishes are these?
Lessee if I remember them all... there is the goofy mecha-lover ninja girl, the goofy "goshujin-samaaaa!" kimono/traditional girl, the tall masculine shoujo-lover girl, the goofy tripping little girl, ...
I forgot about the others. I have already deleted the video file. ^^;
Jinki Extend 1 RAW
A cute highschool girl. A giant robot. Enemy attacks, she's in the robot and it's her first time. Where have I seen this plot before? ^^;
Hopefully it'll be more original in the next episodes.

shinji wasn't cute
And he wasn't a girl.
My memory is failing me at the moment (too many?) but there have been copious amounts of girl-pilots-mecha-on-first-episode I believe, in addition to all the very-young-boy-pilots-mecha-on-first-episode ones (Transformers something?), the older-boy-pilots-mecha-on-first-episode (Dual) and the adult-pilots-mecha-on-first-episode ones (that Mars thing).
> And he wasn't a girl.
lies
Ultimate Girl 1 RAW
Typical M.O.E. production, of Cosprayers fame. Giant cute godzillas roam the city, but giant Megaman is there to defeat them... except that there is a glitch this time. Braindead-but-cute schoolgirl gets to do the job... but she isn't the fighter type. Time runs out and her clothes melt.
Okayy. From the designs I was hoping for a Galaxy Angels clone, but GA it ain't. It's Cosprayers with a new coat of paint.
Transformers Galaxy Force 1 RAW
3D giant toy robots fighting + some 2D animation for the humans. Garish colors ahoy! :(
You forgot the MOST WRONG MAGICAL GIRL TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE EVER.
Actually, I thought that that part was a pretty spot-on parody.
All those girls squeezing and shaking up that phallic magical wand, something had to come out of it at the end. :)
Mahoraba_-Heartful_Days-_01_raw
A feel-good anime, peaceful scenery, peaceful people, peaceful colors, peaceful pace, peaceful... oops I felt asleep (true story!) ^^;
Okay this is about a guy who comes from the countryside and goes living in Tokyo in a renting house where various wannabe-weirdoes are living in. 'Reminds me of Ai_Yori_Aoshi_Enishi but with Kanon's short bodies and square heads. Yawn.
Peach_Girl_01_raw
Momo is a girl with red hair and a tan. We follow her and her troubles at school with boys, bullying, betrayals by girlfriends, stolen first kisses and other sentimental up and down.
Shallow shoujo at its best(worst?).
Air:
H-game adaptation. Travelling grumpy bishounen arrives in a village and socialize with offbeat girls. Eerie.
Ah! My Goddess - 01:
Remake, with new SFX thrown in. Some stuff looked anachronistic, tho the year is supposed to be 2005. VHS tape? Old phone? Black and white TV? BMW? Mates who look like punks from the sixties? Also I would expect that the ambient music in a Goddesses Call Center to be less grating to the ears than that. Oh well. The bike chase was amusing.
Sukisyo_01:
Boys x Boys = I'll pass.
>>22
in 02 you'll see some of it explained
>Is it supposed to be 2005, though?
Yeah - it's written "2005" on the video tape in ep 1.
Gallery Fake 1 RAW:
New York, paintings, auctions, black market.
One classy guy and his associate is plotting revenge against shady characters who deal with paintings and bids. Good, nostalgic music.
I'm kind of disappointed. Ah well, hopefully they won't just drop the old stuff.
Is it still possible to rent VHS's in Tokyo, though? If so, my worldview is shattered.
I'm disappointed in the whole of this season.
What's wrong with Air?
Air seems pretty good for a bishoujo show, which really is damning with faint praise.
And I guess there isn't anything really earth-shatteringly good this season, but I am quite enjoying OMG, and a couple of others. Mahoraba might turn out fun once it gets going, Xenosaga is sort of amusing in its melodrama, and Starship Operators is kind of refreshingly different.

As I said in my review:
H-game adaptation.
Meaning men are invisible, girls are all pretty and in love with the main chara, etc.
Travelling grumpy bishounen arrives in a village
Grumpy may be a novelty here somehow. But his grumpiness doesn't seem to impact anyone - he gets magically a cake from a stranger which was just needed for a birthday of one of the girl, for example. It's a magical show, a man's dream.
and socialize with offbeat girls.
In hentai games, each girl is painted differently from the next one to provide variety. The worse the hgame, the more each girl is in her own "box" and doesn't interact with the others - otherwise the multi-scenario may become too hard to manage. In Air, I see that the interaction is "boxed" so far. But maybe it'll change in the future. That would be nice: hero comes in a individualist town and brings people together. I suspect an harem scenario tho: main guy selects best girls for himself and go live with them under one roof, and they can't live without him.
Eerie.
Feels like a dream, unconnected to reality. Yes it's pretty. Yes we sometimes need an escape from reality. But that also means I'll feel less involved, less caring for the characters. I don't usually cry when a soap bubble bursts. ^^;
> Meaning men are invisible
...they are? They aren't the main focus, so they don't appear much, but invisible...?
> girls are all pretty
A rarity in anime, for sure.
> in love with the main chara
In a multi-path videogame to a linear TV-series adaption, comprimises have to be made. Though so far, only two girls really seem like they might fall in love with Yukito at one point in the series.
>But his grumpiness doesn't seem to impact anyone - he gets magically a cake from a stranger which was just needed for a birthday of one of the girl, for example.
What does his grumpiness have to do with it? He shows the guy a neat trick and he gets paid for it. Of course, he doesn't pay with money, as appearently no one does in this town. That it just happened to be a cake and that Yukito just happened to need a cake, is a different matter entirely.
>I don't usually cry when a soap bubble bursts. ^^;
You don't? You insensitive jerk >:o
>> Meaning men are invisible
>...they are? They aren't the main focus, so they don't appear much, but invisible...?
You are nitpicking. ^^; You know what I mean.
>> girls are all pretty
>A rarity in anime, for sure.
Nit again. By pretty I mean interested in the main guy, open to him, etc. H-game "pretty".
>...only two girls really...
Only two in the first episode, yes. More already by ep2. I haven't seen ep3 yet but I bet at least 1 more has come in.
>That it just happened to be a cake and that Yukito just happened to need a cake, is a different matter entirely.
Not only a cake, but a birthday cake.
...
Are you looking for a fight or what.
>You don't? You insensitive jerk >:o
You are looking for a fight after all. ^^;
Listen, I love romantic comedies/stories but if that what Air is then it doesn't succeed IMO. The blonde is a dolt with too many missing screws. The mom is a drunkard and creeps me out. The guy is a jerk and revels in his jerkiness. The only characters I like are the kids who are treating the main guy like dirt. Under that dreamy-lovely magic smoke there must be a sorry state of affairs, closed tight by that bunch of gleeful lunatics. Someone needs to open the closets of that happy-go-lucky village and give the murdered bodies some fresh air. Then we'll have a plot, and my attention.
> You are looking for a fight after all. ^^;
Sounded more like defending a favourite show. Even for really bad series, there will be someone out there who has found something to like in it.
Yes, I know. I was teasing a little. Sorry. ^^;
I don't think Air is a bad show, I heard that lots of money was poured in it, the animation is good, the acting good, etc. I'm just not attracted to it.
Plus I get flashbacks of Kanon where the hero was a jerk too, the girls were not bright bulbs either, the overall plot nothing to write home about, the ending contrived, and so on. Also, those "square" heads take some time to get used to.
But okay, if someone wants to write his/her own review, he should feels free to do so. I don't expect everyone to have the same views - that's why it's my review, it's how I view it.
> You are nitpicking. ^^; You know what I mean.
...still, why would a series about a guy interacting with a bunch of girl focus on other guys?
> Nit again. By pretty I mean interested in the main guy, open to him, etc. H-game "pretty".
Wah? I think you and I have a different definition of the word 'pretty'...
> Only two in the first episode, yes. More already by ep2. I haven't seen ep3 yet but I bet at least 1 more has come in.
After seeing three episodes...
Misuzu - Seems to see Yukito more as a friend at the moment, but it's pretty much a given that she at one point will fall in love with the guy.
Kano - probably. Also sees Yukito more as a friend currently, but considering he found himself wound up in her little 'situation', she'll probably fall for him.
Minagi - doesn't seem particulary interested in Yukito. But, considering she's one of the main characters of the game, probably.
Haruko - sees Yukito more as a drinking partner than anything else.
Hijiri - sees Yukito more as a peon to boss around than anything else.
Misaru - Right...
Potato - Oh, most definately. But is Potato even a girl?
Okay, so that's three (and a half). If I didn't have any knowledge of the game however, it'd be two. Considering we're already reaching the ZOMG DRAMA part of the series, that number probably won't change much.
> Not only a cake, but a birthday cake.
The guy who gave him the cake didn't know he needed a birthday cake. What, would he have given another type of cake if Yukito wasn't grumpy?
>Listen, I love romantic comedies/stories but if that what Air is then it doesn't succeed IMO.
It's a romantic drama. The comedy in this type of show often dissapears after the first few episodes.
> I think you and I have a different definition of the word 'pretty'...
Maybe.
Well they are not pretty IMO anyway, they have "Kanon" heads.
>Haruko - sees Yukito more as a drinking partner than anything else.
She let him in her house after he said "are you hitting on me?" She runs around in skimpy clothes. She tries to get him to drink. How many more clues do you need? I'm sure she understood "Are you hitting on me?" as "Let's have sex some day, ok?"
That dominatrix woman who hired him, she looked at him like a cat looks at his breakfast.
That underaged teen with long hair, why is she running into him all the time if she wasn't interested? All the other kids despise him. She has raging hormones under the hood, I'd say.
>The guy who gave him the cake didn't know he needed a birthday cake. What, would he have given another type of cake if Yukito wasn't grumpy?
Would YOU have given him the cake? But anyway, what I meant was that the cake appeared a little too conveniently. 'Broke my suspension of disbelief right there.
> She runs around in skimpy clothes.
Skimpy, but not 'Nanny Fine' skimpy. A pair of jeans and a spaghetti top isn't usually something someone would use to bait a guy and more something one would wear because it's fricking hot outside.
> She tries to get him to drink.
As one would expect from a drinking partner.
> That dominatrix woman who hired him, she looked at him like a cat looks at his breakfast.
Really? It seemed to me more like she looked at him like an evil villainness plotting her evil plots of evil evilness.
> That underaged teen with long hair, why is she running into him all the time if she wasn't interested?
Michiru sees Yukito as her rival.
What's more, all three of them are considered only secondary characters in the game and considering that the anime is only supposed to be 12 episodes and a movie, there is simply too little time to make them get romantically involved with Yukito.
> Would YOU have given him the cake?
Let's see here... I am the enigmatic guy Tachibana Keisuke and I explicitly request this guy wearing an awesome shirt to perform that trick of his for me. I like the trick and I happen to have a cake that got uneaten because the people I got it for weren't at home. Now obviously, I can't bring the same cake the next time I visit them, nor can I eat the whole thing myself. Gee, I wonder if I should give this guy who ammused me with his trick this cake?
> But anyway, what I meant was that the cake appeared a little too conveniently. 'Broke my suspension of disbelief right there.
Eh... it's generally not wise to jump from one subject to the other in the same sentence... but anyway...
Things like that tend to be part of some greater scheme of things. And considering that the guy who gave him the cake is supposed to be this 'man of enigma'...
Can we agree to differ? You're obviously both looking for different things.
