ITT we talk about everything Studio 4°C
New thing: Eternal Family:
I have yet to watch Mind Game (http://tracker.boxtorrents.com/download.php/126844/Mind%20Game%20%28st-law%29.torrent). I will report back when I do. In the meanwhile, Mahou Shoujo Tai (http://www.animeforever.org/archive.php) is occasionally brilliant, even if the storytelling is not the easiest to follow at all times. Hey, any kid's show where one of the main moral themes is "distrust authority" has gotta be worth something.

Too much for me right now, will get back on this.
Bah, referal crap:
my Eternal Family instant review: **spasmodic***
I didn't really like Eternal Family all that much.
It seemed to me like the thing would have been better off as a series, somehow getting a rhythm simultaneous to that of the show-inside-the-show, so to speak.
The short sequences at the beginning with the toilet at the end of each contrasted too much with the adventure in the latter part. The few artsy-fartsy flashes didn't help, either.
In short: It lacked flow.
If you watch it several times, you'll see there is a flow. But they took the flow and scattered it to pieces.
Yeah, the toilet thing should have been used less often.
The big fire with everybody dancing was foreshadowed way too early and used too often, plus it wasn't that much significant anyway.
And the flashbacks... I had to pause to try to figure out if that was present past or future. It seems that it was more a puzzle to solve than a sit-back-and-enjoy experience. Maybe that was the purpose, a mindfuck.
Why has that tv exec gone mad at the end? There was no indicators. He didn't seem to be under special pressure.
> If you watch it several times, you'll see there is a flow.
I know there is flow. I simply said the thing was lacking it.
Mind Game was amazing, the copy I downloaded wasn't subbed, and I don't speak moon language, but is wasn't too hard to follow along. I love the use of semi-celshaded live action mixed with the animation, and the backgrounds were gorgeous. Easily the coolest looking anime I've seen since Innocence.
Mind Game's instant review: Psychedelic Pinocchio
I finally watched Eternal Family. The cut-up nature, the crazy cuts, and the leaving out of most of the plot and explanations is all to be expected in a Studio 4ºC short. Koji Morimoto really enjoys hinting at backstory and structure without actually including it in the final work.

Actually it's all explained, the backstory is there. One needs to look carefully around the main action.
For example when the future "father" is drinking at the booth, the "daughter" is behind, exposing her story by her behavior. And so on for all the members of the "family". I'll concede that the backstory is extremely simplified, tho.

I got a chance to watch Mind Game just now, and for a movie about some people being swallowed by a whale, it was pretty psychedelic, even by swallowed-by-whale story standards.
Four Studio 4ºC shorts:

Two of these have been translated by st-LAW and Wizzu before, but the others haven't to my knowledge been translated.

Please don't remind me.
Yes. Please watch Mind Game. It's premiering in America on the 24th at this festival in the Big Apple.
