This forum doesn't have enough manly threads for manly men, so I am posting about giant robot shows to fix this.
Fun facts about this show:
Also, it's animated by Studio "we have too much money" BONES, who did good-looking good shows like FMA and good-looking boring shows like Wolf's Rain.
It is my duty as a real man to watch this anime.
I love the character designer's work on this and on Overman King Gainer, but robots bore me! What am I to do?
ERRR i watch (hopefully not another mars daybreak)
add.: Cross referencing e7 character names with Rotten's library is fun.
I dunno. I do kind of like the style, but the hint that it's a one-year series sort of puts me off it. There are precious few series over 26 episodes that I've ever felt were worth watching at all.
The first episode was pretty good. I think Sato Dai won't let this show turn into utter crap even though it's ariing at 7 am. Well, never mind. I hope this might be something worth watching, hope it turns classic like the ol' 80s family anime shows that were good like the WMT series.
Lots of anime run at 3 am or so. This one has an actual audience, as you can see by the clock, instead of just otaku recording it on their PVRs.
I hope Jobs and Woz show up. And that someone subs the first episode, because all I can get out of the raw is a bunch of shinjiru.
With modern fansubbing speeds this show is practically being ignored :(
I guess it's to do with US prelicensing, but I wish someone would do it. (I'd even do it myself, slowly, if I had a script)
Eureka's forehead is very very pretty,
Well, I watched the one episode, and it didn't suck. No matter how silly transforming mecha on surfboards are, they do manage to capture something of the basic appeal of giant robots - mainly that they're supposed to be cool. However, Aim for the Top 2 is sort of doing it better. ("It" being capturing the fun of giant robots without the extra boring baggage and silliness.)
Overall, though, maybe I'll watch it for a bit longer.
The important difference here is that Aim for the Top 2 comes out once every few months, and as for Eureka...
http://bt.saiyaman.info/download.php?id=633&file=Eureka7%2002%20RAW.avi.torrent
(ps top2 is worse than top1, unless the second episode is better than the first was)
I don't know. I did like Top1, but it never really grabbed me. Top2 is full of manic energy, and I am really enjoying it. They're not the same show, and one shouldn't judge them as such, really.
COMBINED INSTANT REVIEWS: EUREKA SEVEN 2 AND OFFTOPIC TOP2 1/2
Eureka:
I understood an entire line of the raw, an amazing achievement. Renton flies around in the battle for a bit, before falling off his skateboard, then falls into Eureka's mech and uses the purple thing which makes it go berserk. The rest of the episode consists of the family and Holland conjugating "shinjiru" at each other.
Top 2 1: Even with Solar's better translation, I don't like it (a TALKING CAT? in GUNBUSTER?)
Top 2 2: Well, a robot piloting another robot is probably innovative, but the fraternity being closed to only people with psychic abilities and robots goes against Top1 where you could get anywhere with hard work and effort. Also, the new robots are uglier than the original Gunbuster or original cosmic monsters. So it's better, but I still don't like it so much. PS I haven't seen FLCL.
You're still comparing it against Top1, which I don't think will serve you well here. The two are taking on different sub-genres of the giant robot genre. And I think you are dimissing the morals of the show too soon - they're obviosuly still just setting things up, and not playing all their cards yet.
Well, yeah, I wouldn't criticise it so much if it wasn't a Top/XXXbuster, but I want more Gunbuster and I'm getting something completely different.
There's certainly more that could happen, but the moralistic bits happened in the first few minutes of Top1 and I can't really wait around until 2007 for the whole thing to be released so I can discuss it.
And, really, a talking cat?
Well, so far, the laid-back atmosphere is fairly nice, and the battles are nice to look at (BONES are good at making them, even if they have a tendency to put in one nice-looking battle per fifteen episodes or so). All the shinjiru-heavy hear-to-heart talks are annoying, though.
Also: Cutting from just before the climax of the battle to the aftermath, and then showing the actual battle at the end of the episode? Where did I see that before?
Testing copipe. I thoguth this was hilarious.

Some Eureka 7 AA:
If you ask me this series is the "new FMA" Havent had so much fun watching anime in years.
I cant beleive they still havent released ep 10 and 11 yet, there was like 2 errors to change and it was good to go...
If this is the new FMA, I guess I did the right thing not watching the old one. It isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it isn't all that good either. It's sort of fun, but shallow. Something to watch if you're bored and there's nothing else to watch.
hageshiku doui. In other words I agree with you. Vehemently.
I mean, it's not a really awfully horrible crap show, but it's not earth-shattering. Just plain fun. A little boring.
BUt I watch it for the eye candy. Oh my god you have to love those Itano Circuses.
Ep 16 was an unusual episode by teh way, very different in style.
FMA was dramatastic by now, whereas Eureka hasn't had much happening at all.
>>29 Indeed. Eureka 7 is really dragging. As much as I appreaciate its take on the slice of life etc it can only be appreaciated after some hard action. Not for like 5+ episode and counting of the hazing of the hero and his walk on life with little action AT all.
I just like the songs in this series and the animation quality of it. Don't like the mecha too much eventhough I am an avid mecha fan.
Ok I just watched Ep 11. FINALLY something good happening. Took the series long enough. Although Ep 12 preview seem to show it boring again.
The thing with Eureka 7 is that every episode seems to be vvvvvvvvvery boring 3/4 of the series and the the last quater is intense action and suspense to the point you cant get enough. That what keeps me still watching this series.
Ep 26 is great!
Ep 26 is great!

Great series so far. I am up to episode 30 now. This is being released on April 25 in North America by Bandai. I have already preordered it.
The plot sure takes a big kick to the nuts in episode 31, no?
Now I'm really wondering where they're going to take this.
I'm loving this series, just got to ep14

A lot of people have been complaining about it being boring... which I don't understand, personally. Those episodes that contain the interpersonal relationships are some of the best this series has to offer, and is what makes it stand out compared to other anime (esp. mech anime). A show isn't all about action - if you can develop character, when those characters DO get into action sequences, you'll feel for them more sincerely (for example, if one were to die or get near death).
Personally, I find the scenes without action to usually be comical, or display an interesting slice of life. All in all, this series has been one of the most amazing I've seen in a long while.
Wolf's Rain is somewhat along these lines. Eureka7 easily wins because they didn't ace the character development in Wolf's Rain.
I'm not sure whether I'd say Eureka7 is better than FMA yet, though. At the end of the series we can judge more accurately.
Did anyone else think that ED1 could've sounded completely beautiful if they continued in the same vein as the first 5 seconds?
There was a banner up on adult swim's website saying that Eureka 7 will be available on their site starting april 14th.
It was taken down, and somebody was probably fired, but I think it's safe to assume that we'll be seeing it on US TV in the next few months.
>>41
I agree, but I think because of the interpernal description of the characters, some people simply can't understand them and feel bored. When Neon Genesis came out in Japan, people who can sympathize Sinji were absorbed it and became core fun, but the others who didn't sympathize even hated it.
By the way, the anime features many techno composers, and the music are great eventhough sometimes they don't match with scenes. Techno funs should watch it.

OST2 comes out 2006.04.05! Yeah, the music is really quite good, which is surprising. I especially like 16."Forbidden Fruit" and 17."A Vagabond Strums" from the OST1.
I wish Nanashi fansubs weren't so slow! Oh well, it's worth waiting for this great series.
