anyone watching it? is it REALLY that good?
What is this whole thing? What's atoraxia or whatever?
I'm so confused and totally unable to use google, so don't even suggest it!
No, it's not as good as the game, if that's what you're asking. Also, if you tried actually reading the board you'd find several discussions of it already.
...you didn't know?
In response to >>1 and >>2
The Fate/Stay Night anime is a adaption of the eroge that it is based off of. It is not quite as spectacular as the game, well it's not even that great but it's worth watching once.
Fate/Hollow Ataraxia is a sequel to the Fate/Stay Night game. It presents several alternate storylines and bonus material. And probably some other stuff since I'm not actually too sure of the contents.
For the record Fate/Stay Night is the second best selling PC game in Japan and Ataraxia takes first place.
If you are interested in playing these fabulous games then you better brush up on your Japanese because they will never be officially released in the English speaking world. Although there is a translation of the demo at insani.org if you want to get a glimse of what you are missing out on.
It got rave reviews in the latest Otaku Generation podcast, which incidentally featured 4chan.org as a special guest.
Oh wow, sounds like a real authority of good taste!
PS: >>8 got it.
I saw the first four episodes, and know some really major Type Moon (the game company) fans who were fangasming over it. IMHO it's pretty mediocre. I don't dislike it, but it's not something I feel any great need to make an effort for.
Fate/Stay Night, is, in my opinion, a great new series that everyone should check out. It has good animation, it's own style and character. The theme is not so original but who cares. It has good action scenes, an interesting story that makes you want to watch more, etc. So I recommended it!
I haven't played the game though so I can't compare the game and the series. But I think both of them would be worth your time.
Well, if that was actually true about "good animation" and "good action scenes", that would help the show, but it isn't. There's a whole lot of static-character-on-scrolling-background shots, and people flying across static backgrounds and colliding, and other really horribly obvious cost saving animations in the fight scenes. It's kind of weird, you'd think they'd have a big budget for the show, but still you get this.
The animation does get a bit better later on, though, but the early episodes were really painful to watch sometimes.
yeah, how does something as big as THIS not get a decent animation budget?
blame it on studio deen being teh suck in general
wasn't the game some hentai game?

huh? i didnt seem to find any horrible animation when i watched it though?
I stopped watching after episode 4. It's not that I actively disliked it, but rather I failed to see a reason to push through and watch more of it.
Not just some ero game (PS: If you're going to use Japanese words, at least use the ones the Japanese themselves use), an ero game by Type Moon, superstars of the doujin scene, and creators of Tsukihime.
Maybe you were watching it through rose-coloured lenses, but it's there. Just look for the fight scenes filled with static characters on quickly moving backgrounds.
I watched the first few episodes, but they weren't that great imo. Something about the animation bugged me, and the plot was definitely a drag.
It does get a bit better, at least, once the Type Moon writing has a chance to kick in a bit more. Although the Ilya episode had me rolling my eyes so far back into my head, I saw my own brain.
...and after watching some more, I really wish the rest of the series was as good as the occasional brilliant moments. They're there, but they're too far apart and uneven.
