Well the Gundam franchise is one of my favorite anime franchises (except for its not so great installment Gundam SEED), but my favorite anime is the classic Hokuto no Ken and the Hokuto no Ken animated movie. But I don't think I should be called a troll for stating my own opinion about which animes are one the best.
Actually its around 12 years since Evangelion aired, but still the original Mobile Suit Gundam and NGE are classics, even some of the anime series of today parody or have references to both Gundam and NGE(like SGT. Frog or Excel Saga).
